The Perry County Detention Center is licensed for 28 inmates at any given time, but it often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. At most city and county jails in Arkansas, at least 40% of the inmate population turns over monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, while about 8-9% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Perry County remain in one of the Perry County facilities much longer.

In Arkansas, bail before trial is a constitutional right for all charges except capital offenses where the proof is evident or the presumption is great. Judges in Perry County decide the terms of release, which can range from release on recognizance to conditions of release to a set bail amount.

Perry County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 560 offenders annually.

About the Perry County Detention Center

Perry County’s jail is the Perry County Detention Center at 511 Aplin Avenue in Perryville, operated by the Perry County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Ricky Don Jones. Its phone number, (501) 889-2333, is answered 24 hours a day. It is a small jail, with room for about 28 men and women. Most are awaiting court, and the rest are serving county time or waiting to be transferred to the Arkansas Division of Correction. The Sheriff’s administrative office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You can check custody status on Arkansas VINE at vinelink.vineapps.com or by calling the detention center. Perry County shares the 6th Judicial Circuit with Pulaski County, and its cases appear on Search ARCourts. If there may be a warrant out, contact the Sheriff’s Office or a lawyer before turning yourself in.

Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1 requires a first appearance before a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours of arrest. Except for capital offenses when the proof is evident or the presumption great, everyone is bailable before conviction (Arkansas Constitution, Article 2, Section 8). Rules 9.1 and 9.2 direct judges to consider release on recognizance or with conditions first and to use money bail only when no other conditions will reasonably ensure the person appears. Bondsmen charge a 10% premium, rounded up to the nearest $5 and paid in full before release, plus small state-required nonrefundable fees (Arkansas Code §17-19-301). Call the jail for bond amounts and payment options.

On-site visits are offered daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and remote video visits run daily from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., 1:00 to 4:45 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Every visit must be scheduled at least 24 hours ahead, and no more than a week out, through JailATM at deposits.jailatm.com. Arrive 10 minutes early with a driver’s license, state ID or military ID. Visitors under 17 must be listed on the visit and come with an approved adult. Shorts, sleeveless or low-cut tops, see-through clothing, hats and sunglasses are not allowed. Because vendors and hours can change, call (501) 889-2333 to confirm before your visit.

Address mail with the person’s full name and inmate ID number to Perry County Detention Center, P.O. Box 146, Perryville, AR 72126. Paperback books must come from a publisher or reputable vendor. For money and commissary, a kiosk in the lobby takes cash or cards, and deposits can also be made by phone at (877) 618-3516. Ask staff about release and property pickup.

There is no public transportation to Perryville, so most visitors drive. For gas, Casey’s at 207 Fourche Ave and the Exxon at 209 S Fourche Ave are both in town. Sonic Drive-In at 820 Fourche Ave and Subway at 1050 Fourche Ave are close by for a quick meal.
