For inmate information at any hour of the day or night, call the 60-bed Fremont Detention Facility at 510-790-6800.

When someone is arrested in this county for a misdemeanor or felony, they are taken to this jail for booking and processing. If the charges call for it, they stay here until they post bond, are released on their own recognizance, or are ordered held until their trial is resolved.

To see who is currently being held, check the facility’s roster with the inmate search tool.

A sentence of less than one year is served here in the county jail. Anyone sentenced to more than a year is sent to the California State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

On this page you’ll find how to search the official jail roster, directions to the jail, and details on inmate services, including the visitation schedule and rules, putting money on an inmate’s account, sending letters, inmate phone calls, voicemail, email and text messaging, tablet rentals, posting bail, and ordering commissary.

Write down the inmate’s booking number or jail ID as soon as you find it, since you’ll often need it to send mail or set up communication. If it isn’t listed online, call Fremont Detention Facility at 510-790-6800 and ask for it.

Do you suspect there’s a warrant for your arrest in Alameda County or elsewhere in California? Or do you need details about a court case involving a friend or relative? A good place to start is the California Superior Court.

Most criminal defendants in Alameda County and throughout California have a constitutional right to be released on bail before trial, with exceptions for certain capital and violent felony charges. The California Supreme Court has held that a person cannot be kept in jail solely because they can’t afford bail unless no less restrictive condition would protect public safety or ensure their return to court, so judges must consider ability to pay. Under Rule 4.101, judges also cannot consider whether a defendant has asked for a jury trial.

Want to know how much an inmate’s bail is? Call the Fremont Detention Facility at 510-790-6800, or if you know the charge, check the bail schedule for Alameda County. The county accepts cash, a surety bond, or a property bond.

The Fremont Detention Facility is licensed for 60 inmates at any given time, but it often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. At most city and county jails in California, the inmate population turns over like this:

  • At least 35-40% turn over monthly
  • Another 25-30% turn over every 90 days
  • Another 15-20% turn over every six months
  • About 8-9% stay between six and twelve months

Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take time to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in custody at one of the Alameda County facilities much longer.

Every year, Alameda County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 91,400 offenders.
