The presiding judge signed the county's felony and misdemeanor bail schedule on January 2, 2026. Examples: residential burglary, $50,000; assault with a weapon other than a gun, $30,000; felony spousal or partner abuse causing injury (corporal injury), $30,000; second-degree robbery, $50,000; first-degree robbery, $100,000; murder, $1,000,000, or no bail with a special circumstance. Misdemeanors: first-offense DUI, $10,000; battery on a spouse or partner, $10,000; vandalism, $15,000; and any misdemeanor not named, $5,000.

The schedule is only for people arrested without a warrant who have not yet seen a judge. Penal Code 1269b says that once a judge has ruled, the judge's amount controls. The Madera court says the judge decides at arraignment whether a person is held with bail, held without it, or freed on his own promise to appear, based on the charge, the chance he returns to court, and his record. A missed date lets the judge keep the bail money and send out an arrest warrant. Under Penal Code 1305, the bond company then has 180 days, counted from the mailed notice with five extra days added, to get the person back before the court.
