Operating regularly under their top capacity of 50, the Napa County Juvenile Hall houses the youth who are in custody for any reason. While some will remain at the facility, others will be released shortly after booking. Operated by the Probation Department and works together with many service providers to improve the lives of juvenile offenders as they pass through the department. Cognitive behavioral programs are present, alongside mental health services and individual and group counselling, as well as pet therapy. To supplement the education program provided by the local schoolboard classes such as art appreciation and organized recreation are also offered, along with other related programs. Each youth is offered opportunities to move past prior traumas, grow new skills, learn life skills, develop social skills through positive interactions, and learn positive decision making. A GED program can be completed for those who want their high school diploma, and a full time teacher with two aids will ensure that all residents keep up with their classwork. A garden is present to teach youth how to garden, how to do hard work and work as a team, as well as the rewards of that hard work.
