Sonoma Main Adult Detention Facility Inmate Bail & Bonds
Sonoma County bail and bond: two jails, a brand-new courthouse, and one lobby number
Sonoma County holds adults at two Sonoma County jails run by the Sheriff: the Main Adult Detention Facility, 2777 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, and the North County Detention Facility, 2254 Ordinance Road. Both share one phone line, 707-565-1400. Sonoma County Inmate Search shows who the Santa Rosa jail is holding and any bail on file. The county court cases for these arrests move through the Hall of Justice on Administration Drive.
1. How do I tell which Sonoma jail has my brother?
Search his name at Sonoma County Inmate Search; the record shows the housing site. The Main Adult Detention Facility, 2777 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 (707-565-1400), holds pretrial and sentenced inmates at medium and maximum security. The North County Detention Facility is at 2254 Ordinance Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95403, near the airport, on the same Sheriff line, 707-565-1400. If the screen is blank, ring the detention line at 707-565-1400.
2. Is the Sheriff the same as the jail?
The Sheriff's Office runs both jails. Its headquarters is at 2796 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, with a main number of 707-565-2511. That office also answers for the substations in Guerneville, 707-869-0202, and Sonoma Valley, 707-996-9495.
3. Where do the cases go after the arrest?
Sonoma County has one Superior Court. Sonoma's new Hall of Justice, 625 Administration Drive, Santa Rosa, at the county campus, takes criminal and traffic cases along with juvenile dependency and mental health calendars. The court says a new six-story building with 15 courtrooms was finished in July 2026 and occupied in August. Its main phone is 707-521-6500. The Criminal Division office is open 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and its phone, 707-521-6620, is answered from 8 a.m. to noon. Daily criminal calendars are posted on the first floor of the Hall of Justice and online at 4 p.m. each day. When an agent wrote the bond, Sonoma's court needs a letter from that agent accepting responsibility before a new date is set.
4. How long before a judge sees her?
State law gives 48 hours after arrest, not counting Sundays and holidays (Penal Code 825). Call the court at 707-521-6500 with her full name and ask for the courtroom and time.
5. What does bail cost for her charge?
This county's current bail schedule was not readable for this page, so no dollar amounts appear here. Orders posted in 2020 set bail at zero for many offenses during the pandemic, so older figures you find online may be wrong. Ask the court at 707-521-6500 for the schedule now in force.
6. Can a judge set a number that is not on the schedule?
Yes. Judges adopt a countywide schedule each year (Penal Code 1269b) and can go above or below it for one person. A hearing is required before release in serious and violent felony cases and certain domestic violence cases (Penal Code 1270.1). Since 2026, In re Kowalczyk, a California Supreme Court ruling, also tells judges to weigh what a person can afford and to try non-money release first.
7. Paying at the Santa Rosa jail: how does it work?
Call the detention line at 707-565-1400 before you go. Cash and cashier's or bank checks are the common choices in Santa Rosa, and card payments may carry a fee. This page could not confirm lobby hours or card use. The bail guide covers the choices.
8. What is the Tuesday and Saturday lobby appointment I keep seeing?
That is the Book, Print, Release process for people who were told to report to the Main Adult Detention Facility lobby for fingerprints or a DNA sample. It is by appointment only, on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., one person per hour. Book it at 707-565-1400. It is not a way to pay bail.
9. How much do Santa Rosa bail agents take?
The state Department of Insurance says the usual fee is ten percent, and some agents rebate part of it. The fee is not refunded. Have the Sonoma agent spell out the charge, the collateral and the skip penalty on paper.
10. Can a house back the bond?
Possibly, but Sonoma's property-bond steps were not published where this page could read them. Ask the court at 707-521-6500 about equity, location of the land, and forms before you hire an appraiser.
11. Her Sonoma record says no bail. What does that mean?
A Santa Rosa judge can hold someone without bail only in the three cases Article I, section 12 lists: capital crimes; violent or sex felonies with solid proof and a likely risk of grave injury; and felonies with threats of great harm the person would probably act on. Release also stalls in Santa Rosa if parole, probation or an outside warrant is in the way.
12. Can a Sonoma defendant get a free lawyer?
At arraignment, tell the judge you want the Public Defender. The office is at 600 Administration Drive, First Floor, Room 111J, Santa Rosa. It answers at 707-565-2791 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and its juvenile unit is 707-565-6304.
13. Where is the juvenile hall?
Teens go to Juvenile Hall at 7425 Rancho Los Guilicos Road, Santa Rosa, 707-565-6300. The Juvenile Division of Probation at the same address is 707-565-6229. Some youth are released to a parent after a risk review. Juvenile files are private.
14. What if Windsor or Sonoma city police arrested him?
Windsor Police is at 9291 Old Redwood Highway, 707-838-1234. Sonoma Police is at 175 First Street West, 707-996-3602. Ask the department who made the arrest, then check the jail line at 707-565-1400. We found no city jail in Sonoma that we could confirm.
15. What happens after a skipped Santa Rosa court date?
The bond can be forfeited. Whoever posted it has 180 days after notice, plus five for mailing, to bring him back (Penal Code 1305). Reach both the Santa Rosa court and a lawyer that day.
16. How do Sonoma scam calls usually sound?
Anyone demanding gift cards, crypto or a quick app transfer isn't from the Sonoma jail. Hang up and dial the detention line yourself at 707-565-1400.
17. Does Sonoma County have to set reachable bail?
Generally, yes. The 2026 case In re Kowalczyk says cash bail has to be fair and payable. A Santa Rosa judge must think about the person's money and can't use an impossible number in place of a no-bail hearing.
