Back to questions ↑11. ICE detainer: what to expect for families
- ICE finds out about the arrest through booking prints deputies send. ICE may then issue a detainer.
- With a detainer, immigration officers ask local jailers to keep the person pending ICE pickup up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)). Ventura jail staff work within SB 54, the Values Act, keeping release on time and limiting ICE transfers to a court-signed warrant or a qualifying serious or violent felony.
- A paid bond won't lift the detainer.
- Officers from ICE may pick them up in person while held. If they don't come, the sheriff must free them.
- The detainee locator finds people with an A-number and home country. Can't find the alien number (A-number)? You can also search by the exact name, native country and date of birth.
- The final stop is up to ICE and can change.
- Families can reach ICE's Los Angeles field office: 300 North Los Angeles Street, Room 7631, Los Angeles, CA 90012, or by phone at 213-830-7911.

After that, they're taken to a reception center for processing. Staff classify each person by gang connections, health care needs, and security risk. Their next move is a facility that fits their needs.

Back to questions ↑13. Are there Ventura County jail mugshots online?

Fugitives and threats are the exceptions. The rule skips the sheriff's own site. Even so, many sheriffs leave photos off.
Pictures from an ICE booking aren't handed out on request; the path is ICE's online records request, which the agency reviews. When a mugshot is not online, the media may phone sheriff's staff, 805-654-9511. Families and the media can't get federal booking photos in most cases. The There are only a few exceptions.
