How do I post bond in Alamosa County?

  • Who sets bail: the Alamosa jail doesn't choose the amount; a judge does.
  • The 48-hour rule: Colorado statute expects bond to be set within 48 hours after someone reaches the Alamosa jail, for most cases.
  • PR bond: in some cases a judge allows release with only a signed promise to return for the next date.
  • Cash bond: someone pays the whole sum.
  • Bail bondsman: an agent pays the bond, and you pay the agent a fee you don't get back; state law caps it at 15 percent or $50, whichever is higher.
  • A home in Colorado may be used only when equity covers one and a half times the bond amount.
  • The court may add terms, like curfews, testing or no-contact orders.
  • Other holds: a warrant from another case can keep someone locked up even with bond posted.
  • Skipping court: the judge issues a warrant, and the Alamosa bond is lost.
  • Before paying: call 719-589-6608 to ask about the exact bond.

More detail is on the bail and bond page.

Where do federal cases from Alamosa County go?

A federal case from Alamosa County doesn't stay in the county courts. Court dates are held inside Colorado Springs' federal court building, 212 North Wahsatch Avenue, Suite 300, Colorado Springs, CO 80903, and its clerk answers at 719-471-3387. Right after booking, your relative sees a U.S. magistrate judge at a first appearance.

There's no bail schedule in federal court. Instead, the magistrate judge calls a short detention hearing to rule whether the person charged can leave before trial and with what rules. In the meantime, many federal defendants stay in a county lockup under contract to the Marshals Service. For their location, call the Marshals at 719-633-2037. Once there is a federal prison term, the federal BOP names the prison. After that, the BOP inmate locator shows the prison.

How does an ICE detainer work in Alamosa County?

First: As part of booking, fingerprint scans head to federal databases ICE has access to.

Next: When ICE seeks custody, it sends an immigration hold by way of Form I-247A to jail staff.

Then: Form I-247A asks for 48 more hours at most beyond the scheduled release. The clock counts without stopping, including holidays and weekends.

But: Colorado's statute, C.R.S. 24-76.6-102, makes it clear that jails cannot hold anyone beyond release solely because ICE asked. So Alamosa County must free them on schedule unless some other legal hold exists.

Finally: ICE agents might arrive right at release to pick the arrested person up. If not, the person you know walks out.

Locate ICE detainees on the online locator. Enter their A-number and birth country.

ICE's site names the Aurora center (details, 3130 North Oakland Street, Aurora, CO 80010). Questions: 303-361-6612 from 8 until 4. Calls can't be put through to detainees.

ICE office: the Denver ERO field office handles this state and Wyoming; it's at 12445 East Caley Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111; call 720-873-2899.

What happens after a Alamosa County state prison sentence?

After a prison sentence, many people wait in the county jail for CDOC to pick them up. At reception, CDOC checks new arrivals for security risk, medical needs and other needs.

With a rating set, the person is assigned to a prison that fits that level. Search the CDOC inmate locator. Our Colorado state prisons page shows addresses.

Back to questions ↑

Will Alamosa County mugshots show up online?

If Alamosa posts no roster online, Alamosa mugshots can't be viewed on the web. VINELink shows custody status, not photos. News media who want a mugshot that isn't public can request it from the Alamosa County sheriff's office (via the facility line) at 719-589-6608.

A photo taken by ICE needs to be asked for through the ICE records form, and ICE reviews it and might approve it.

Federal jail photos are withheld from the general public and journalists. There is one exception: the U.S. Marshals Service, keeper of U.S. booking photos, is allowed to release one about a wanted fugitive, so it can help find them or alert the community, or for an immediate threat to public safety.
