How does bail work in Baca County?

  • Who picks it: for someone held in Springfield, a judge fixes the bond type and how much.
  • Deadline: Colorado gives judges about 48 hours from booking to set bond.
  • Signature release: no money is paid at first; they sign and must return to court.
  • Full payment: a friend covers the entire bond at the Springfield jail or court.
  • Bondsman fees: plan on paying a charge that is kept; by law it may not exceed 15% or $50 if that is higher.
  • Real estate bond: a Colorado property can be pledged for bail when the owner's equity is at least 150 percent of the bond.
  • The court may attach rules to release: curfews, testing or keeping away from a victim.
  • Other cases: a warrant from another case may keep your loved one in jail after bond is paid.
  • Keep every court date — missing one may trigger new arrest orders plus bond forfeiture.
  • Ask first: phone 719-523-4511 and ask about the exact bond and payment options.

What if ICE puts a Baca County inmate on hold?

1. At booking, fingerprints get run through national databases that ICE checks.

2. If ICE wants the defendant, it files a hold using Form I-247A to the Baca jail.

3. Form I-247A asks for as many as 48 more hours past the time they'd be freed. Those hours run straight through, including holidays and weekends.

4. Colorado's statute, C.R.S. 24-76.6-102, says a jail may not hold anyone past release only because ICE asked. So Baca County lets the inmate out on time except when some other legal hold exists.

5. Officers from ICE can come at the moment of release and take the defendant. Otherwise, the arrested person simply leaves.

Find people in ICE custody on the online locator. Type in the A-number and their home country.

Does Baca County show mugshots online?

Baca mugshots show online only if Baca posts a roster. VINELink covers custody status but not pictures. News media who want a mugshot not shown publicly can contact the Baca County sheriff's office by calling 719-523-4511.

A mugshot from ICE can only be sought via ICE's online FOIA form, and the decision is ICE's.

Federal mugshots are never released to ordinary people or reporters. The single exception: the Marshals Service, which takes the jail photos in federal cases, can make public such a photo about a wanted fugitive if it helps catch them or alert people. It may also do so when someone is an immediate public threat.
