How do I post bond in Mesa County?

  • Setting the bond: a judge chooses the terms, often at a short hearing.
  • How fast: nearly everyone jailed in Grand Junction ought to get a bond hearing inside 48 hours after they arrive.
  • PR bond: sometimes a judge lets that person go with just a signature to return.
  • Full payment: a friend posts the entire amount — court costs can be taken from the refund.
  • An agent's fee has a cap: 15 percent of the bond. The minimum fee is $50, and it stays with the agent.
  • Using a house: Colorado land works if the equity equals one and a half times the bond.
  • Bond conditions: release can include scheduled reporting, no-contact orders or other limits.
  • Paid but still inside? Another case can stop release after bond is posted.
  • Court no-show: the court may order an arrest; it also keeps the bond.
  • Questions: ring the jail at 970-244-3500 to ask about the current bond.

Where do federal cases from Mesa County go?

A federal charge that starts in Mesa County does not remain in the state courts. Its hearings take place inside Grand Junction's Wayne Aspinall Federal Building, 400 Rood Avenue, Suite 309, Grand Junction, CO 81501 — the court clerk can be reached at 970-245-5396. Within a day or so after booking, the accused stands before a U.S. magistrate judge for an initial appearance.

You won't find a bail chart here. What happens instead: the judge holds a formal detention hearing to decide whether your relative is released while waiting for trial and under which conditions. During the case, many federal prisoners stay in county jails, and the Marshals Service pays for the beds. To learn the lockup they are in, ring the Marshals on 970-243-5210. Following a federal prison term, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) selects the prison. Later, its BOP inmate locator shows where the defendant was sent.

How does an ICE detainer work in Mesa County?

First: During booking, the fingerprints go to national databases that ICE checks.

Next: If ICE is interested, the agency issues a hold by way of Form I-247A.

Then: That form requests up to 48 added hours beyond the normal release time. The clock runs straight through; weekends and holidays are not skipped.

But: Colorado's law, C.R.S. 24-76.6-102, says jails cannot hold someone longer only because ICE made a request. That means Mesa County has to let them go on schedule except if another legal reason calls for more time.

Finally: ICE agents can arrive as the detained person leaves to pick the person up. If ICE does not come, your relative simply leaves.

Don't know the A-number? The detainee search takes a name together with home country and date of birth.

ICE's website displays the Aurora contract facility at 3130 North Oakland Street, Aurora, CO 80010, phone 303-361-6612.

Reach ICE's Denver field office, 12445 East Caley Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111, at 720-873-2899.

A prison sentence begins after some time in county jail until CDOC takes over. Next is a CDOC intake center. Staff check security level, health, mental health and programs.

Once classified, the inmate is moved to a facility suited to their needs. The DOC offender search lists the facility after intake, and our state prison page has addresses.

Are there Mesa County jail mugshots online?

Search the Mesa custody lookup. Mesa records list inmates without mugshots. Reporters who want a mugshot that isn't posted may reach out to the Mesa County sheriff's office on 970-244-3500.

An ICE booking photo must be requested at ICE's FOIA request site; then ICE decides whether to approve it.

Federal mugshots are never given to ordinary people and reporters. One exception applies: the U.S. Marshals Service, the agency that takes federal booking photos, can release one about a wanted fugitive, if that helps make an arrest or alert people, as well as for an immediate risk to public safety.
