Otero County Detention Center
Otero County Detention Center
If you need information on an inmate, the 34-bed Otero County Detention Center is available 24 hours a day at 719-384-5941.
Law enforcement brings people arrested for misdemeanors and felonies in this county to this facility for booking and processing. If the charges require it, they remain here until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or ordered held until their trial is decided.
Check the inmate search tool for a roster of those who have been arrested and are still in custody.
Inmates who are convicted and sentenced to under a year stay here. Those with longer sentences are sent to the Colorado State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page walks you through searching the official roster, calling the facility at 719-384-5941, getting directions, and using inmate services such as visitation, account funding, mail, phone calls, voicemail, email and text, tablet rentals, bail, and commissary.
Make a note of the inmate’s booking number or jail ID, since mail and other services often require it. If it isn’t online, call Otero County Detention Center at 719-384-5941.

Otero County Detention Center Inmate Search
To find out whether you have a warrant in Otero County or anywhere in Colorado, begin with Crimewatch. For court case details involving you, a friend, or a relative, the official Colorado source is the most reliable option. Because not all agencies post warrants on Crimewatch, an empty search doesn’t rule out a warrant.
In Colorado, including Otero County, the law makes reasonable bail available to most defendants facing non-capital charges, and those charged with petty or traffic offenses usually have no monetary bail. Judges set bail after reviewing factors like:
• The defendant’s financial situation and whether they are employed.
• Whether they’ve lived in the area for a while or have family nearby.
• The severity of the offense they are charged with.
• Their prior criminal record and past offenses.
To get an inmate’s bail, call the Otero County Detention Center at 719-384-5941. If you know what they were arrested for, a sample Colorado bond schedule can help you estimate the amount, since each judicial district publishes its own. Cash, surety bonds, and property bonds are accepted, and personal recognizance release is an option.
The Otero County Detention Center is licensed for 34 inmates, though it is often forced to accept many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Colorado turn over at least 35-40% of inmates monthly, 25-30% more every 90 days, and 15-20% more every six months, with roughly 8-9% remaining six to twelve months. Stays of more than a year are usually tied to serious charges like rape or murder. Those cases take longer to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in this county remain at one of the Otero County facilities much longer.
Every year, law enforcement agencies in Otero County arrest and detain approximately 1,080 offenders.

If you have questions regarding an inmate or the programs and services provided, the staff can be reached at 719-384-5941, and an online listing of all the detainees is published for your own investigation.
Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.
Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.
The Otero County Detention Center also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills.
Along with the efforts made by the staff, reduced recidivism is seen when inmates are able to stay in contact and supported by their family or friends who are not incarcerated so mail, phones, and visits are provided.
Visits are in person, and are via video and an account is created online to book and complete visits, allowing both visitors and inmates to schedule a visit.
Phone accounts are also registered online, and allow for inmates to make outgoing calls during the daytime and evening hours when they are not participating in a task or program.

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:
Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Otero County Detention Center uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Otero County Detention Center first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the payee the jail names (check with the jail first) and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order. Never mail cash or a personal check.
222 East Second Street
La Junta, CO 81050
Option 4 - Make an Inmate Deposit with Jail ATM over the Phone by calling 877-810-0914
