  • Still held? Another case may delay the release.
  • Court no-show: an arrest order can follow; the bail is lost.

What happens after a federal arrest in Prowers County?

A federal charge out of Prowers County doesn't remain in the county courts. Its court dates are set at the U.S. courthouse in Colorado Springs, 212 North Wahsatch Avenue, Suite 300, Colorado Springs, CO 80903; its clerk answers at 719-471-3387. A first hearing soon after booking is with a U.S. magistrate judge at a first appearance.

There is no fixed bail list. In its place, a federal judge holds a formal detention hearing to learn if your loved one may go free before trial and on which terms. Meanwhile, a lot of federal defendants sit in a local jail in a deal with the U.S. Marshals. To ask their location, ring the Marshals on 719-633-2037. When a sentence to prison comes down, the BOP, the federal prison system, takes custody. Then its BOP inmate locator shows which prison.

What if ICE puts a Prowers County inmate on hold?

Step 1: During booking, fingerprints go to federal databases that ICE checks.

Step 2: If ICE decides to act, the agency lodges a detainer using Form I-247A to the Prowers jail.

Step 3: The I-247A requests up to 48 more hours after the time of release. That time counts nonstop; weekends and holidays aren't skipped.

Step 4: Colorado's statute, C.R.S. 24-76.6-102, makes clear a jail cannot hold someone past release only because ICE asked. As a result, Prowers County sets the person free on schedule unless a court order applies.

Step 5: ICE officers may come at release time and take the detained person. Otherwise, the person walks out.

Families may track a loved one on locator.ice.gov; search by A-number, or by name, birth country and birthday.

ICE's website lists the Denver Contract Detention Facility at 3130 North Oakland Street, Aurora, CO 80010; its number is 303-361-6612.

Need to reach ICE? Try the Denver field office at 12445 East Caley Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111 or 720-873-2899.

Prowers County mugshots: can I view them online?

No. Prowers posts no inmate list online, so no Prowers mugshots are posted. VINELink for Prowers tells you custody status only. Reporters seeking a mugshot not shown publicly may contact the Prowers County sheriff's office on 719-336-8050.

A mugshot from ICE needs to be sought on the ICE records request form, and ICE makes the call.

Federal mugshots aren't given to the general public and the press. One exception exists: the U.S. Marshals Service, which takes booking photos from federal cases, can make public a photo about a wanted fugitive if that helps catch them or warn people; it can also do so once there is an immediate danger to others.
