In most of Colorado the county sheriff operates the jail; in Denver, a combined city and county, the jail is run by the Denver Sheriff Department. Sheriff’s deputies and police from cities and towns that send their arrests to the county all book people here. Intake includes fingerprints, a booking photo, a property inventory, warrant checks and a medical screening before a housing assignment.

Arrests by the Colorado State Patrol and other state agencies are also booked here, as are some federal prisoners, such as those held for the U.S. Marshals.

Colorado Limits on ICE Holds

Colorado law does not allow jails to keep someone in custody on an ICE detainer alone, and a 2025 law (SB25-276) confirms that a civil immigration detainer is not a warrant. Officers may not delay a release after bond is posted or work with ICE on a civil hold without proper judicial authorization. State and local agencies also face limits on sharing personal information for immigration enforcement.

Public booking data is drawn from the official booking list (opens in a new tab), which may list the charges, the agency that made the arrest and, where allowed, a booking photo. Call the Pueblo County Detention Center at 719-583-6135 for details that are not shown.

Going from intake to housing or release can take anywhere from two hours to an entire day, depending on how many people are already waiting to be booked.

Bond Hearings in Colorado

Colorado law requires that a person held in jail have bond set by a judge within 48 hours of arriving at the jail. Money bond is generally not allowed for traffic and petty offenses, and many people are released on a personal recognizance bond. Where money bond is set, commercial bail bonding agents may post it; they are regulated by the Colorado Division of Insurance. Our Bail page explains the release steps.
