  • Signature release: nothing is paid at the start; your family member signs and must return to court.
  • Cash: a friend covers the entire bond.

Where do federal cases from Washington County go?

Any federal arrest that starts in Washington County won't remain in the county courts. Hearings take place inside the Alfred A. Arraj U.S. Courthouse in Denver, 901 19th Street, Denver, CO 80294, and its clerk answers at 303-844-3433. Not long after being arrested, your family member goes before a U.S. magistrate judge for a first court hearing.

There is no preset bail figure. Rather, the court calls a custody hearing that settles if the defendant stays locked up until trial and what the terms are. During the case, most federal detainees stay in a local jail under contract with the Marshals Service. To learn their location, call the Marshals on 303-728-7800. If a Washington County defendant gets prison time, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, known as the BOP, picks where they go. After that, its BOP inmate locator lists which prison.

How does an ICE detainer work in Washington County?

1. At booking, prints go to federal systems that ICE can check.

2. When ICE seeks custody, the agency lodges an immigration hold using Form I-247A to the jail.

3. The request asks for 48 extra hours at most after the time of release. The clock runs without a break, with weekends and holidays counted.

4. Colorado's statute, C.R.S. 24-76.6-102, spells out that jails can't hold anyone past release solely because ICE asked. So Washington County releases the one held on schedule except if a warrant or court order exists.

5. Officers from ICE can arrive as the person you know leaves to take the one held into custody. If that doesn't happen, the arrested person simply leaves.

The fastest way to find someone : the ICE locator — search by registration number or by name and birth date plus home country.

There are no Washington mugshots online because Washington has no public roster. Use VINELink to check custody; it has no photos. Journalists seeking a mugshot kept off the roster can contact the Washington County sheriff's office at 970-345-2244.

A photo ICE took can only be sought through ICE's FOIA request site; then ICE needs to approve it.

Federal mugshots are never provided to members of the public and the news media. Only one exception exists: the U.S. Marshals Service, keeper of federal mugshots, can release a photo about a wanted fugitive when that helps capture the person or warn the public; it can also do so for an immediate threat to public safety.
