Haralson County Jail Inmate Bail & Bonds
Haralson County bail and bond: the Bremen jail, the hearing, and the Buchanan courthouse
Adults arrested in Haralson County are held at the Haralson County Jail, 137 Hayes Glass Drive, Bremen, run by the Sheriff's Office. Use Haralson County Inmate Search first to see if the person is booked, what the charges are, and whether a bond has been set. The Sheriff's Office answers at 770-646-2011. Two things set this county apart.
The county holds its bond hearings in person at the jail, and the courts and clerk are in Buchanan, not Bremen. Hearing dates and which Haralson County court has the case are explained on our court page, and statewide rules on our Georgia bail laws guide. This Haralson County bail guide also answers questions on putting money on an account, arrests of young people, federal and immigration holds, police numbers, property bonds and free lawyers.
If the person misses a Haralson County court date, a warrant can issue and the bond money can be lost. Only a judge sets the amount, so the staff at the Haralson County Jail can tell you the order but cannot change it.
1. Where do I look first to learn if she is in custody?
Search her name on Haralson County Inmate Search. If it shows nothing, the booking may not be finished. Call the Sheriff's Office at 770-646-2011. The sheriff's site says the receptionist is the main contact for warrants, bonding, and the release of inmates, so ask for that person.
↑ Back to the question list2. Why are there two towns, Bremen and Buchanan?
The jail and Sheriff's Office are on Hayes Glass Drive in Bremen. The Magistrate Court, the Clerk of Superior Court, and the public defender are at 4485 Georgia Highway 120 in Buchanan. A bond problem can need both places, so ask each office what it needs before you drive.
↑ Back to the question list3. Where is the first hearing held?
The county says bond hearings are held in person at the Haralson County Jail. A first appearance takes place 24 to 72 hours after arrest, and the judge tells the person the charges. The Magistrate Judge also sets the bond amount and any conditions. Questions go to the Magistrate Court at 770-646-2015.
↑ Back to the question list4. Does the first appearance decide if he is guilty?
No. The county page says the first appearance is not a hearing on the merits. No one will ask about the facts or consider dismissing charges. The judge states the charges, explains the right to a lawyer, and decides bond. Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 17-4-26) also caps the wait at 72 hours when the arrest is on a warrant.
↑ Back to the question list5. Who is the judge?
The Magistrate Court is at 4485 Georgia Highway 120, Buchanan, GA 30113, 770-646-2015, and also handles search and arrest warrants and preliminary hearings. If the judge is not allowed to set bail for the charge, the defendant is told so.
↑ Back to the question list6. What does bail cost for a usual charge?
The county and sheriff pages we opened post no Haralson bond schedule, and the bond-hearing page gives no sample amounts. The figure the judge sets shows on the booking record. Call 770-646-2015 if the record is blank after the hearing.
↑ Back to the question list7. How and where do I pay it?
The sheriff's website has a Bonding Guidelines page, so read it, but the county's bond-hearing page does not say how bonds are paid. Call 770-646-2011 and ask about hours, the payment types the jail takes, and which door to use. A third-party site mentions cash, cashier's check, and money order, but treat that as unconfirmed.
↑ Back to the question list8. Can I use a bondsman in Haralson County?
Licensed bondsmen post bonds in Georgia counties. O.C.G.A. 17-6-30 says a bonding company can collect no more than 15 percent of the bond's face amount; $50 for each bonded charge is also allowed if it is larger. Ask the Sheriff's Office at 770-646-2011 whether it requires a company to be on an approved list.
↑ Back to the question list9. Can property be used for a bond?
Often yes, but the county has not published equity or location rules that we could find. Third-party text says a court must approve it. For bail restricted offenses the sheriff of the county where the crime happened approves property (O.C.G.A. 17-6-12). Call 770-646-2011 with the deed and tax bill in hand.
↑ Back to the question list10. What if the court won't set bond?
Some crimes, including murder, rape, and armed robbery, can be bailed only by a superior court judge (O.C.G.A. 17-6-1). Georgia also names dozens of bail restricted offenses that need cash, a bondsman, or approved property (O.C.G.A. 17-6-12). The clerk at 770-646-2005 can explain how a superior court request is filed.
↑ Back to the question list11. What if Bremen police arrested her?
Bremen Police Department is at 770-537-4441. No source describes a holding cell there. Ask the officer for the report number, then run the name through Haralson County Inmate Search. Buchanan and Tallapoosa officers may also make arrests, so ask which agency has your person.
↑ Back to the question list12. How can we get a lawyer if money is short?
The Tallapoosa Circuit Public Defender serves Haralson and Polk Counties. The Buchanan office is at 4485 Highway 120, 770-646-6629. The county site lists hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, while the state council lists 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., so call first. Bring court papers, bond papers, and proof of income.
↑ Back to the question list13. Where do Haralson teens go?
Georgia's Department of Juvenile Justice assigns Haralson County to the Bob Richards Regional Youth Detention Center, 200 Marable Way, Rome, GA 30165, 706-295-6035. Juvenile records are private, so a minor will not appear on the adult search.
↑ Back to the question list14. What if my brother does not appear at the courthouse in Buchanan?
A warrant can be issued for him, and the bond may be lost. A bondsman may chase him and charge you for it. See a lawyer and phone the clerk at 770-646-2005 the same day.
↑ Back to the question list15. Does the bond money come back?
Cash held by the court can be returned when the case closes, less fines and costs. For a bondsman's fee, read the contract before signing. Keep every receipt and write down the case number.
↑ Back to the question list16. How can I tell a scam call?
A real office will not ask you to buy gift cards or send money through an app to "start" a bond. Deposits to jail phone or commissary accounts are not bond. Hang up and call 770-646-2011 yourself.
↑ Back to the question list17. What if federal agents made the arrest?
Not every arrest stays in county court. A federal charge from Haralson County is filed in the Northern District of Georgia and heard in its Newnan Division: Lewis R. Morgan Federal Building & US Courthouse, 18 Greenville Street, Newnan, GA 30263-2789, phone 678-423-3060. A federal magistrate judge decides whether the person can go home before trial. The U.S. Marshals hold federal detainees, sometimes in a county jail by contract. For someone already sentenced, check the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator.
