The jail and the sheriff's office share the campus at 120 Prison Farm Road, Valdosta, GA 31601, the physical address in the county's staff directory; the office's mailing address is P.O. Box 667, Valdosta, GA 31603. A captain commands Jail Operations, where more than 100 officers supervise an average of about 700 inmates each day, according to the sheriff's Divisions page. The jail line is 229-671-3000, and general business goes to 229-671-2900. A specially trained Jail Extraction Team inspects dormitories daily and searches cells for contraband.

The sheriff's website has a Current Inmates page, and when we checked it on October 30, 2026, it carried a notice that the listing was briefly offline for system maintenance. While the roster is down, detention staff at 229-671-3000 can check a name against the booking log, read out the charges and report any bond figure; spell the legal name and give a birth date. Filed charges and hearing dates sit with the Clerk of Court's office at the Judicial Complex, 327 N. Ashley Street, Valdosta, GA 31601, 229-333-5127.

Inmate calls run through the jail's phone provider. Families create and fund a Pre-Paid Collect account on the provider's website or by calling the provider's call center at 800-943-2189; a Spanish-language version of the provider's site is also available. The sheriff publishes per-minute rates: local calls cost 18 cents, in-state calls 19 cents and international calls 50 cents under both plans. An account opens for each person at booking, and money on it pays for commissary purchases and medical services. The sheriff lists two deposit methods. Cash goes into the money kiosk in the lobby of the detention facility at 120 Prison Farm Road. Online deposits go through the jail's online commissary deposit site, available around the clock, every day of the week; deposits made there post to the same commissary account used for medical charges. Personal letters and photos are scanned by the jail's mail-scanning provider and delivered to inmates electronically on kiosks or tablets. Address them to the inmate's name, the SO (booking or jacket) number and the facility name, at P.O. Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606. Each piece needs a return address, must fit 8.5 by 11 inches and may hold at most five pages, written on the front only. Only one photo may ride in each envelope. The Longview center destroys originals after scanning. Books, magazines, newspapers, legal mail and medical mail go to the jail itself at 120 Prison Farm Road, Valdosta, GA 31601, never to Longview.

Yes. The same provider also runs an inmate messaging service. Families set up an account on the provider's website and send messages that reach the inmate right away, with a photo of any document attached. The sheriff's mail notice points out that this costs less than postage and envelopes and has no cap on the number of messages or photos. The provider's mail-scanning help line is 844-724-2076. Anything that breaks the scanning rules (writing on the back, extra photos, more than five pages) is sent back, and the notice states that no exceptions are made.

Family visiting days and sign-up rules are set by Jail Operations and are given out by detention staff at 229-671-3000; mention the housing unit and booking number when calling. Defense lawyers use a separate attorney visitation system at jailvisitation.lowndescounty.com, which is reserved for attorney-client visits; new attorney accounts are set up by calling that same jail number. Between visits, electronic messages reach the inmate the moment they are sent, with photos attached if needed. Phone calls through Pre-Paid Collect accounts are another option.

Sheriff's patrol deputies serve warrants and other court papers across the county, and the administrative staff files warrants and civil papers, according to the Divisions page. Questions about an open Lowndes warrant go to Prison Farm Road staff at 229-671-2900 with the person's complete name and birth date. Lowndes magistrates sign warrants and hold first hearings in their second-floor courtroom offices at 327 N. Ashley Street, Valdosta, GA 31601, 229-671-2610. Turning in with a lawyer lets bond be handled at booking. Georgia's most serious open cases appear on the GBI's statewide fugitive list.

Children charged in Lowndes go before the county's juvenile judge, Latesha Bradley, whose office line in the county directory is 229-333-7627. The sheriff's Court Services deputies provide security for juvenile hearings along with the other courts, according to the Divisions page. A judge decides whether a child stays in secure custody or goes home to a parent, and the next hearing date comes from that office. Tell detention staff at 229-671-3000 about any chronic illness, needed medication, pregnancy or risk of self-harm as early as possible, using the booked name. Money placed on an inmate account can be used for medical services as well as commissary, the sheriff's Inmate Accounts page explains, so an online deposit or the lobby kiosk can help cover care. A defense lawyer can raise an urgent medical issue with the judge, and the Southern Circuit public defender, 910 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31601, is reachable at 229-671-2800.

The Middle District of Georgia's Valdosta Division sits at 401 North Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31601, 229-242-3616. The clerk keeps weekday hours from 8:30 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. That division serves Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Colquitt, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Thomas and Tift counties. Pretrial custody in those cases is a federal judge's call, and the Marshals Service decides which jail holds a detained defendant. Once a sentence is imposed, look the person up in the BOP locator. U.S. Probation shares the Patterson Street building, and the U.S. Attorney's Valdosta page lists its line as 229-247-0631. A magistrate judge in the federal system hears arguments at a detention hearing about whether the Lowndes defendant can be released on terms or should remain with the Marshals.

1. Step 1: Prison Farm Road staff check each new arrival's citizenship during the first two days, following Code section 42-4-14.
2. Step 2: If papers do not settle it, staff ask LESC or ICE.
3. Step 3: An ICE detainer may extend custody by no more than 48 hours past the planned release, and 8 CFR 287.7(d) strikes Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from that reckoning.
4. Step 4: Georgia's Code section 42-1-11.5 binds the Lowndes jail to follow that request and explain it to the detained person.
5. Step 5: The sheriff publishes CATRA filings online, one per quarter, covering 2025 and 2026.

Immigration agents serve the prisoner with Form I-247A and ask Valdosta staff for a heads-up before release. They must then arrive and take custody before the hold window shuts; people moved this way can land in ICE lockups elsewhere in Georgia or out of state.

A person sentenced to state prison stays at Prison Farm Road until transport. The sheriff's eight-member Transport Division, supervised by Corporal Todd Moye at 229-671-3043, moves prisoners to prisons, detention and diversion centers, rehabilitation centers and mental health placements. Once in state custody, the person shows up in GDC's Find an Offender search, and the department takes family calls at 404-656-4661. Booking photos and arrest reports are requested from the sheriff with the open records request form posted on its website; a separate records request form is posted too. Someone whose arrest record qualifies can use the sheriff's posted instructions and form to ask that it be restricted. Anyone asking for a copy, news staff included, first signs a written pledge to keep it from websites that want money to take it down. After a Lowndes acquittal or dismissal, one certified letter citing 10-1-393.5 obligates that website to pull the photo, charging nothing, inside 30 days. Federal prisoners' booking photos remain under the control of the federal marshals.
