Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center Information

Serving the areas of Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven and Warren Counties, the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center has a capacity of 64.

These beds are provided in housing units with 48 beds for male detainees and 16 for female detainees and are further divided into small units with a common area and sleeping spaces. Housing assignments are determined after an assessment and they are assigned based upon gender, age, may consider size, and history of behavior in detention facilities to provide a safe space for each youth. With either single or double rooms surrounding a common area, each of the housing units provides study and recreational space.

Classrooms are provided for ongoing education with licensed teachers and any learning needs will be addressed. A focus is maintained on mental health, life skills, social skills, and education throughout their stay. Each student is provided with a schedule they must follow to keep the facility operating smoothly, and staff try to maintain a positive environment.

The youth are provided with supplies for two letters each week and time to write them and are permitted to send additional mail when postage is provided by their family.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

The Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
