About the Maui Community Correctional Center

The Maui Community Correctional Center in Hawaii has a capacity of approximately 534 inmates. However, it currently houses over 300 inmates due to overcrowding. A new unit is being built to help alleviate the overcrowding. Another source states that the facility can hold up to 894 inmates, while yet another says it has a capacity of 118 inmates. The Maui Community Correctional Center is located at 600 Waiale Drive, Wailuku, HI 96793. You can contact them by phone at (808) 243-5101 or the visitation hotline at (808) 243-5861. Their fax number is (808) 244-0128.

The Maui Community Correctional Center in Hawaii has visitation hours from 9am to 3pm every day of the week. Some sources specify that visiting days are Saturday and Sunday, while others include Monday as well. Visits can range from 15 minutes to one hour, and inmates with special privileges may be allowed additional visits. Inmates at the Maui Community Correctional Center in Hawaii have rioted over poor living conditions, including unstable, inhumane, and unconstitutional living conditions. Staff at the jail have also expressed concerns about newly admitted inmates being isolated for five days in separate cells. Construction is set to begin on a new 32-bed medium security unit to address overcrowding issues.

The Maui Community Correctional Center in Hawaii is unique because it has an innovative drug court program that allows select pre-trial inmates, sentenced felons, and parole violators to participate in in-facility treatment services. However, the jail has also faced issues with poor living conditions and overcrowding. The facility has at times contained over 610 offenders of all security levels.

Inmate Bail and Bonding

The Maui County Sheriff recommends that you use a bail bond agent licensed to do business in Maui County.

  • You can pay a cash bond yourself, or use your home in Maui County, or in some cases the state of Hawaii, but the benefit of using a bail bond agent is that they take responsibility for making sure the inmate shows up for court in Maui County, and if they don't, then they take the financial responsibility.
  • The typical fee for a bond will be between 10-20% of the bail amount; usually 15%.  So if an offender has a bail of $10,000.00, their bond will be $1500.00.

Call 808-243-5101 to find out the exact bond (plus other fees) amount, or look it up online by looking up the information on the Maui County inmate locator.

Maui County Bail Bond Information

Because Maui County and Hawaii can change their bail bond procedures, it is always best to call either the Maui Community Correctional Center at 808-243-5101, or the court in the jurisdiction (i.e. Municipal Court, District Court, etc.) where the offender was charged, and do this right after an arrestee has been booked.

Ask the staff at the Maui Community Correctional Center or the Maui County Court Clerk these specific questions:

  1. Is the defendant eligible for bail or a bond?
  2. How much will the bail or bond be, and what are the additional fees?
  3. Where do I go to pay it?
  4. Are there any days or times of the day or night when I cannot post bail?
  5. What types of payment are allowed? Cash? Money order? Credit card? What types of credit cards? Property or other collateral? Surety bonds?
  6. Do I have to use a bail or bond agent?

If you feel the bail is too high and you wish to get it reduced, contact a lawyer or the defendant's public defender and get them to look into what they can do to get a bail reduction. The sooner you get working on this the quicker you will get your loved one released.

This entire process will go smoother and faster with a criminal attorney or bail agent handling it for you.
