Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center

As a temporary housing facility the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center will accept youth who are 10 to 17 years old and up to age 18,  and who are waiting for their case to be decided, or who have been sent to the facility from the Criminal rom Juvenile Court, so they are not being housed in the county jail with the adults.

The Juvenile Detention Center is connected to the Cook County Juvenile Center, which contains both the Juvenile Justice and Child Protection Divisions of the Court.

It is not a long term facility and for this reason only houses youth for a short term basis, providing full care for them during their detention. Full meals and snacks are provided, along with laundry, medical care, mental health care, and any other necessary treatments.

The average length of stay is 11 days. While they are within the location, they will participate in programs and opportunities for personal growth, new skills, and positive ways to interact with others. Each program is intended to improve the chance of success for each youth after they are released.

No extended programs are in place due to the short stay, but they may continue their education by doing their homework and assignments from their school.

Mail: Youth are not at this location for an extended time, negating the need for mail services.

Phone: Phones are provided for phone calls to lawyers, parents, and guardians. Incoming calls are not permitted.

Visitation: Visits may be arranged by contacting the facility directly, but only for parents or legal guardians.
