Juvenile Detention in Lake County, Illinois is housed in the Robert W. Depke Juvenile Complex Center, the Minard. E Hulse Juvenile Detention Center, and has easy access to the Juvenile Courts, visitation areas, and other services. There are several entrances throughout the complex that provide access to different areas of the building, and permit for the entire Juvenile Justice System to function cohesively and together. It has a total of 48 beds and houses both male and female juveniles and contains both detention and a residential treatment center. To provide the best results and positive changes, there is a behavioral management program in place that encourages positive choices and good decisions. Cognitive behavior groups are hosted, mindfulness activities begin each day, and a focus is maintained on a development model rather than a correctional center. Individual plans for each youth are provided as needed, and there is very limited use of physical restraint or physical interventions. Teachers onsite communicate with the schools that each student comes from and maintain their education while they are in the detention center. Good behavior is rewarded with additional phone calls or visits, staying up later at night, and keeping books in their room overnight.
