With 49 beds, the Madison County Juvenile Detention Home is a temporary placement for juveniles while they are waiting for a decision from the court. They will be admitted after their arrest and then housed at the location until the court releases them to their parents to wait for their court dates or sentence, or after they have received their sentence. Few will remain after sentencing to serve their commitment time. Education is continued through work with the local schools, so they are able to return to the school after they are released without falling behind their classmates. They are also provided with additional opportunities to access further education and learning opportunities. Counselling and social services are also provided, and will assist youth in developing good social skills, life skills, managing emotions, and developing good decision making skills. A wellness policy is in place to address nutritional education and physical activity, teaching youth to care for themselves and their health. Visitation: Visits are provided on at least one day each week and must be booked with the facility directly.
