Offenders sentenced to less than one year will serve their time at this jail, while those with longer sentences will be transferred to either the Indiana State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

This page provides information on a range of inmate services, including the visitation schedule, inmate account funding, sending mail, phone calls, voicemail, emailing and texting, tablet rentals, bail bonds, and commissary purchases.

It’s a good idea to keep the inmate’s jail ID or booking number for future communication needs. If it’s not available online, call Gibson County Detention Center at 812-385-3496 for further assistance.

About the Gibson County Detention Center

New jail construction for Gibson County was started directly behind the old jail, and it will provide increased capacity, more cameras, better security, and additional spaces and functions. The new building will house the Jail, Sheriff’s Office, and the Dispatch for the county.

The 120-bed Gibson County Detention Center houses all of the offenders after their arrest from booking through to their bail hearing and their trial, as well as during a sentence if it is less than one year, for all of Gibson County, both misdemeanor and felony arrests.

Central security uses cameras and electronic controls to manage the doors and safety features of the entire building, and this provides a safe and secure environment for inmates and staff.

Locating an inmate and their bail amount can be done either by calling the jail with an inquiry at 812-385-3496 or by accessing the online look up.

Once bail has been determined it can be paid in the lobby of the jail at any time and is also able to be paid online.

For those who are unable to make bail or are serving a sentence, money may be added to their account which will allow them to make purchases at the commissary and other needs, it can be funded either at the kiosk that is located in the lobby or online.

Phone access and the ability to send and receive texts is provided through an account that can also be funded by friends and family either in the lobby or online. Visits are only done with video and this can be scheduled, accessed, and completed online. The schedule for the inmate that you want to visit will be provided upon your registration and selection of that inmate.

Inmate Bail and Bonding

How to handle bail after an arrest in Gibson County

If someone has been booked at Gibson County Detention Center in Princeton, their next steps may include:

1. Release without posting bail, provided they agree to attend court.
2. Detainment until their trial.
3. Posting bail or bond to secure release. For the exact amount, call 812-385-3496.

There are a variety of payment methods available for bail.

  • The usual way to post a cash bond is to pay the full amount at the jail bonding window or the clerk of court by cash, cashier's check or money order; many jails also offer card payment through a lobby kiosk or online bond vendor for a fee, and you should bring the inmate's full name and booking number (call 812-385-3496 for the jail).
  • Assistance is available from licensed bail bond companies in Gibson County.
  • Real property bonds are accepted in many courts: an owner may offer land or a home after showing clear title and equity of at least the bond, often double, with a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value, and the court that set bail approves it.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Gibson County Detention Center?

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

Ask the jail whether it takes deposits in person before you go.

Call Gibson County Detention Center to ask whether it has a Tiger kiosk for cash or card deposits, and where it is.

If you can't get your questions answered online call the Gibson County Detention Center at 812-385-3496.

Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

Tiger Commissary's online site lists the services set up for each jail, such as commissary orders or deposits.

Go to Tiger's online site, pick the state and the jail, and see which services it offers there.

Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Call Gibson County Detention Center at 812-385-3496 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.

Call 812-385-3496 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.
