Johnson County Jail Inmate Search and Mugshots, Olathe and New Century, KS

A Johnson County, Kansas inmate search is done on the sheriff's inmate search, which covers both county jails: Central Booking in Olathe, where every arrest in the county is processed, and the New Century Adult Detention Center, where longer stays are housed. No public gallery of booking photos is posted; a photo request goes to the sheriff. Detention staff at 913-715-5900 confirm custody by phone, VINELink sends release alerts, and filed state cases show on Kansas CaseSearch.

1. How do I use the Johnson County inmate search?

Enter a last name in the sheriff's inmate search. A match shows the person's Criminal File Number (CFN), a six-digit number that relatives need for deposits, mail and video-visit accounts, so write it down. A person booked minutes ago, or released earlier today, may not match yet. In that case call New Century at 913-715-5900 or Central Booking at 913-715-5100.

Some city police departments release photos in news releases about major arrests. Request an ICE booking photo through ICE FOIA. Federal mugshots are not public, apart from fugitive photos the U.S. Marshals publish.

5. Is there a warrant out in Olathe or elsewhere in the county?

Deputies with the sheriff's office in Olathe serve warrants for the whole county, and the office keeps an online warrant search you can try first; to be certain, call 913-791-5800. Kansas has no statewide search of its own, but since Nov. 5, 2024, Olathe district court cases have been on Kansas CaseSearch, where a bench warrant would appear. Most people in Olathe and the suburbs clear one through a lawyer-arranged surrender at the Central Booking Facility, 101 N. Kansas Ave., Olathe. If a missed hearing is the problem, the district court clerk at 150 W. Santa Fe St. in Olathe can be reached at 913-715-3500.

18. Which agency made the arrest?

The inmate search and the booking record name the arresting agency. Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee and Lenexa make most city arrests; the sheriff patrols unincorporated areas and contract cities; the Kansas Highway Patrol works the interstates. The agency that arrested the person holds the police report, so call it for questions about the arrest itself and the jail for questions about custody.
