↑ Back to the question listHow do I use VINELink?
Go to VINELink, select Kansas, then type a name. Results list custody status plus the holding agency. You can register for a call, text or email when custody changes, or phone VINE at 866-574-8463. A booking made very recently can take time to show up.
↑ Back to the question listGetting a booking photo (mugshot)

The office may charge a copy fee. Immigration records go through ICE FOIA.
↑ Back to the question listChecking for a warrant in La Crosse
La Crosse is home to the Rush County Sheriff's Office, and its deputies handle warrant service throughout the county; you can reach them at 785-222-2578. La Crosse district court cases are on Kansas CaseSearch, and since Kansas has no statewide warrant search, that's the place a bench warrant would show. The district court clerk shares that Elm Street address and answers at 785-222-2718 about missed hearings.
↑ Back to the question listHow do bond and release work?
The magistrate sets bond at a first appearance that K.S.A. 22-2901 requires without unnecessary delay. Bond is posted at the jail on Elm Street; call first to confirm the amount and payment types. Our bail bond instructions explain bond types, approved sureties and refunds.

How do I report a medical need?
Call the jail at 785-222-2578 and give the inmate's name, the medication or condition and the prescribing doctor. Staff decide how medication is brought in; don't drop off pills without asking first. If the person needs eyeglasses, a hearing aid or a medical device, mention that on the same call, and keep the pharmacy's name and number handy so jail staff can verify a prescription quickly.
↑ Back to the question listDetails to have before calling the jail
The person's full legal name, date of birth and, if you know it, the date and place of the arrest. Ask whether bond is set, the next court date and the jail's rules for property and clothing. If the person was taken by the Kansas Highway Patrol, the booking still happens at the county jail.
↑ Back to the question listWhat happens to a juvenile?
Minors are not held with adults. When detention is ordered for a minor, placement is at a youth facility elsewhere in Kansas. Parents or guardians can ask the sheriff at 785-222-2578 or the district court at 785-222-2718 where the youth is.
↑ Back to the question listDoes time in jail count toward a sentence?
Yes. K.S.A. 21-6615 requires the sentencing judge to credit the days spent in custody while the case was pending. Trial timing is set by K.S.A. 22-3402: 150 days from arraignment for someone held only on that charge, 180 days for someone on bond.
↑ Back to the question listCan I drop off clothes or property?
Only with permission. Phone 785-222-2578 before bringing anything to Elm Street, because a small jail may accept just a court outfit for trial days or release clothing and turn away everything else. Ask what sizes, colors and items are allowed, whether new packaging is required, and when deliveries can be made. Personal property taken at booking is inventoried and kept until release; a family member can ask to pick some of it up, which usually requires a signed release from the inmate and photo ID at the counter.

↑ Back to the question listHow do immigration detainers work?
