1. Where are Boone arrests held?
The Boone County Jail sits at 3020 Conrad Lane, Burlington, KY 41005; call 859-334-2143. The county also runs the Boone County Work Camp for some sentenced inmates, and the main jail holds ICE detainees under federal arrangements. Give staff the full name and birth date when asking about someone.
↑ Back to the question list2. What if they were arrested just outside Boone County?
Arrests made past the county's borders stay in the arresting county instead of coming to Conrad Lane. No match on the roster? Try these detention centers next:
- Try the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington at 859-363-2400.
- The Grant County Detention Center, in Williamstown, takes calls at 859-824-5191.
- In Carrollton, the Carroll County Detention Center can be reached at 502-732-9499.
3. How do I find an inmate?
The online roster lists people currently in custody. VINELink shows where a person is held and sends a call or text if they leave custody or change facilities. Court dates and charges appear in KYeCourts public access after filing.
↑ Back to the question list4. How is bond paid in Boone?
Pay bond in person at the jail, cash or cashier's check only. The jail never asks for payment by phone, app or gift card, so treat any such call as a scam. Our bail guide explains bond types and refunds.
↑ Back to the question list5. What is the video visit schedule?
Onsite visits are by video and are booked ahead in the jail lobby. Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to noon are set aside for last names A to M and Thursdays for N to Z, with visits of up to 30 minutes. Anyone may visit for 15 minutes on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon. Work Camp visits take place on Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. See our visitation guide.
↑ Back to the question list6. What rules apply to visitors?
Visitors must be 18 or with an adult, sign in, show ID if asked, and agree to a search. One adult at a time checks in, and up to three people can share a visit. Remote video visits are booked on the family account website. Our visit guide has more tips.
↑ Back to the question list7. How do I add money?
Add commissary money at the lobby kiosk or through the jail's online account service. Money sent by post is not accepted. Funds pay for snacks, hygiene items and other store orders. See our money guide and commissary guide.
↑ Back to the question list8. How are phone accounts funded?
Add phone money by calling 877-998-5678 or through the family account website. Calls are recorded, so avoid talking about the case. People in custody cannot get incoming calls. See our phone guide and messaging guide.
↑ Back to the question list9. What mail can I send?
The jail accepts only plain pre-stamped postcards from a post office, written in pen or pencil, with your full name and return address. Stickers, labels and glue are not allowed. Photos need a stamp on the back plus your name and address, and inmates may keep two 3 by 5 photos. Write the inmate's name, then Boone County Jail, P.O. Box 898, Burlington, KY 41005. See our mail guide.
↑ Back to the question list10. What programs does the jail offer?
The jail lists AA meetings, chaplains, mental health help, GED classes and Exodus counseling. Programs can help with sentencing and life after release. Ask the jail at 859-334-2143 how an inmate signs up, and whether a program counts toward any court requirement.
↑ Back to the question list11. How does an inmate get a lawyer?
Qualifying defendants get the Boone County Trial Office of the public defender (6159 First Financial Drive, Suite 300, Burlington, KY 41005; 833-385-6050). The judge checks finances at the first appearance. With a case number, family members can ask that office which attorney was assigned. See our court guide for each step of the case.
↑ Back to the question list12. Could someone booked in Burlington have a warrant from another case?
Yes, and in a county this busy it's worth asking. The sheriff's deputies who serve local warrants will check a name at 859-393-0667. Kentucky's warrant answers come from sheriffs, while the courts' free guest records search shows open cases statewide, handy when someone has lived in Florence and also in Kenton or Campbell.
If a warrant is still active after release, the person typically surrenders at the jail on Conrad Lane, with a defense lawyer requesting bond. For missed court, the circuit clerk at 6025 Rogers Lane, Burlington, KY 41005, takes calls at 859-448-2900.
↑ Back to the question list13. What happens to juveniles?
Youths are held apart from adults. A detained youth sees a judge within 48 hours, minus weekends and holidays (KRS 610.265). Juvenile Justice (502-573-2738) decides placement, and families are told where the youth is sent.
↑ Back to the question list14. Are mugshots available?
See whether the roster shows a photo; a mugshot often appears with the booking entry. Reporters may request unposted booking photos from the media office at the sheriff's department. For ICE photos, file the ICE records request form. Federal mugshots are not released, except that the Marshals may publish one when searching for a fugitive.
↑ Back to the question list15. What happens in a federal arrest?
Federal arrests from Boone are sent to the Covington division of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky, 35 West Fifth Street, Covington, KY 41011, 859-392-7925, where a magistrate judge holds the first hearing. Prosecutors may seek a detention hearing, usually set three to five days later. Until then the defendant waits wherever the U.S. Marshals place them, and their Covington staff, 859-392-7918, are the ones who know which jail that is. After sentencing, search the federal prison locator.
↑ Back to the question list16. What are the steps of an ICE hold?
An ICE detainer (Form I-247A) is first sent to the Boone County Jail, 859-334-2143, and ERO Louisville, the closest ICE field office to Burlington, answers at 502-625-6202. Then, through it, ICE may ask that Burlington jail staff keep a Boone inmate up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released on the Boone case. ICE does the pickup during that window, and if no officer arrives, the hold lapses. Look the person up with the ICE finder.
↑ Back to the question list17. How do I follow a state prison sentence?
Corrections first tests and classifies each new state inmate, then assigns a prison by custody level. Certain Class D sentences are carried out in local jails. Use the KOOL lookup for the current location and read our prisons in Kentucky.
↑ Back to the question list18. What are the first steps for a family?
- Search the roster for the name and copy the booking number.
- Call the jail, 859-334-2143, to ask whether a bond is set; in Boone the bond is posted at the jail, not the courthouse, in cash or by cashier's check.
- Check KYeCourts public access for the charge and first court date.
- Read the Boone bail guide before bringing money.
19. What if a stranger phones demanding money for a release?
No. The jail warns that scammers call families claiming to collect bond or fees. Real bonds are paid in person at 3020 Conrad Lane, Burlington, KY 41005, never by gift card, app or wire. If a caller pressures you, hang up and check the roster or call 859-334-2143 yourself.
↑ Back to the question list20. Which prosecutor handles the case?
The Boone County Attorney, 2970 Union Square, Burlington, KY 41005, 859-334-3200, handles misdemeanors in District Court. The Commonwealth's Attorney for the 54th Circuit, 2995 Washington Street, Burlington, KY 41005, 859-586-1723, takes felonies to the grand jury and Circuit Court.
↑ Back to the question list21. Does the jail hold immigration detainees?
Yes. The Boone County Jail on Conrad Lane (859-334-2143) appears on ICE's list of detention facilities, so some people held there are ICE detainees rather than local arrests. ICE says money cannot be mailed in for them; use the deposit methods on our money guide. The ICE finder confirms whether ICE has the person.
↑ Back to the question list22. Which police agencies serve Boone County?
Inside Florence, arrests are made by the Florence Police Department at the Florence Government Center, 8100 Ewing Boulevard, Florence, KY 41042 (859-647-5420). The Erlanger Police Department, 505 Commonwealth Avenue, Erlanger, KY 41018 (859-727-7585), covers the slice of Erlanger that crosses into Boone. The Boone County Sheriff's Office (859-393-0667) and Kentucky State Police Post 6, 4265 U.S. Highway 25, Dry Ridge, KY 41035 (859-428-1212), patrol the rest of the county, including Union and Walton.
For an emergency anywhere in the county, call 911. For questions about an arrest already made, ask the arresting agency first, then the jail at 859-334-2143.
