Garrard County Inmate Search

Garrard County's arrests are held in Nicholasville at the Jessamine County Detention Center (229 East Maple Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356; 859-885-4558), so Lancaster families look the person up on its inmate roster, checking the birth date. How booking photos are handled is explained below. VINELink, KYeCourts and our court guide cover custody alerts and court dates.

Where is someone arrested in Lancaster taken?

People are taken to the Jessamine County Detention Center in Nicholasville, because Garrard keeps no jail of its own. The Garrard fiscal court approved the Jessamine contract on March 31, 2025, raising the daily charge per inmate from $34 to $40 starting July 1, 2025, and its April 2026 minutes still list payments to that jail. When you call 859-885-4558, say the arrest happened in Garrard County. If the arrest was very recent, the sheriff (859-792-3591) or Lancaster police may know whether the person has arrived there.

Can I check the roster from home?

Youths are never jailed with adults. A youth held in detention sees a judge within 48 hours, not counting weekends and holidays (KRS 610.265). The Department of Juvenile Justice (502-573-2738) decides placement, and the case goes to Garrard District Court.

↑ Back to the question list

Can I get a mugshot?

Yes. Ask the booking jail for the mugshot in a signed open records letter, naming the person and the arrest date. Reporters and other news media may direct that kind of request to the jail or to the sheriff. For immigration photos, use the ICE FOIA page. A federal booking photo is only released when the Marshals publish it in a fugitive hunt.

↑ Back to the question list

Are federal prisoners held in Nicholasville?

It may. The Nicholasville jail houses federal detainees only after the U.S. Marshals sign a bed contract with it. A federal case from Garrard County is heard in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky, 101 Barr Street, Lexington, KY 40507, 859-233-2503, and a magistrate decides custody after hearing both sides at a detention hearing. After sentencing, federal inmates appear in the federal BOP locator. Lancaster families can call the Marshals' Lexington office at 859-436-6750.
