1. Which jail has the inmate?

Lyon has no jail of its own and uses three: the Crittenden County Detention Center, 208 W. Carlisle St., Marion, KY 42064, 270-965-3185; the Marshall County Detention Center, 54 Judicial Drive, Benton, KY 42025, 270-527-4760; and the McCracken County Jail, 400 Clarence Gaines Street, Paducah, KY 42003, 270-444-4730. Families may need to call all three. Deputies at the sheriff's office (270-388-2311) can tell you where an arrestee was taken. Their bed counts differ. In the state's Oct. 22, 2026, report, the Crittenden jail in Marion held 123 people in 133 beds, the Marshall jail in Benton held 73 in 120, and the Paducah jail held 363 in 343. Lyon County had about 9,123 residents in 2025, per the Census Bureau.

2. Can I search for an inmate online?

Try the inmate roster for each host jail, search by surname and confirm the birth date and that the record says Lyon. If nothing appears, call 270-965-3185, 270-527-4760 or 270-444-4730. VINELink sends custody alerts and KYeCourts guest portal shows court dates. A recent intake may lag.

3. How do visits work?

First learn which of the three jails has the person, then ask that facility (270-965-3185, 270-527-4760 or 270-444-4730) about schedules, registration, ID and video options. Minors need a parent or guardian with them, and visitors are screened. Read our visitation guide.

4. How is bond paid?

The host jail can give the figure; payment happens at the Eddyville courthouse (270-388-7231). Confirm by phone which payment types work, and carry a photo ID. Judges can also order release with no money paid (KRS 431.066). See our bail guide and money guide.

6. Can an inmate call me?

Yes, by way of prepaid calling that the host jail arranges and prices. Prosecutors can hear the recordings, so stick to family news. See our phone guide and messaging guide.

7. How do I write to an inmate?

Each of the three has its own address and rules, so pin down the right one first. Address the envelope with the booked legal name and your return address. Staff search everything other than legal correspondence and refuse banned items. Our mail guide covers photos.

9. Could an Eddyville inmate have a warrant in another county?

Yes. Local arrests are housed in Marion, Benton or Paducah alongside people from several counties, and in this lakes region Caldwell, Trigg and Livingston warrants are common too. The sheriff's office looks up Lyon warrants at 270-388-2311, and the courts' free guest case search brings up open cases statewide from one name.

Once released, someone with a warrant still open can have a defense attorney schedule a surrender at the jail the sheriff names, with a bond request ready. The circuit clerk at 500 West Dale Ave., Eddyville, KY 42038, answers at 270-388-7231 about missed dates.

↑ Back to the question list

10. Where are juveniles detained?

Minors aren't held with adults in the host jails. A detained child gets a hearing within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays (KRS 610.265). The Department of Juvenile Justice (502-573-2738) handles placement, and Lyon District Court hears the case.

↑ Back to the question list

11. Can I get a mugshot?

Yes. Send a written records request to the jail that booked the person with the name and arrest date, asking for the mugshot. The Lyon sheriff and the host jails take the same letter from news media. ICE photos require the ICE FOIA page. Federal booking photos are released by the Marshals solely to help find fugitives.

↑ Back to the question list

12. Do the host jails take federal prisoners?

They can, under Marshals contracts. Lyon federal cases go to the U.S. District Court, Western District of Kentucky, 501 Broadway, Paducah, KY 42001, 270-415-6400, and a detention hearing before a magistrate settles pretrial jail. Look up sentenced federal prisoners in the federal inmate locator. Eddyville families can call the Paducah office of the U.S. Marshals, 270-415-1706.

Eddyville has no county jail, so a Lyon detainer is filed with whichever of three jails took the person, either Marion (270-965-3185), Benton (270-527-4760) or Paducah (270-444-4730). ICE's Louisville office is at 502-625-6202.

  1. ICE sends an I-247A detainer to the holding jail.
  2. When Lyon custody would end, ICE can ask that host jail to hold the inmate up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released, following 8 CFR 287.7(d).
  3. ICE has to pick up the person in that window.
  4. If ICE does not, the jail releases the person.
  5. Follow moves on the ICE detainee locator.
