The Pulaski County Detention Center at 300 Hail Knob Road, Somerset, KY 42503 (606-678-0130) holds county, state and federal inmates, plus people from Lincoln County. Use the jail roster, VINELink for custody alerts, and KYeCourts public access for court dates.
1. Who is held at the Pulaski jail?
The Pulaski County Detention Center at 300 Hail Knob Road, Somerset, KY 42503 holds county, state and federal inmates, including people from Lincoln County. Call 606-678-0130. Have the full booking name ready, because letters and deposits must match it exactly.
↑ Back to the question list2. How do I search for an inmate?
Use the roster to see who is in custody and their charges. VINELink confirms custody and sends notice of a release or transfer. KYeCourts public access lists hearings. People booked recently can take a while to show online.
↑ Back to the question list3. How do video visits work?
All visits are by video, at lobby stations or from home. Schedule at least 24 hours ahead with the jail's deposit service or at the lobby kiosk; an account is needed first. Call the jail to confirm hours. Children must stay with a parent or guardian, and visits are monitored. See our visitation guide.
↑ Back to the question list4. How do I post bond?
Ask the jail at 606-678-0130 or the circuit clerk at 606-677-4029 how to post bond at that time of day. Phone card payments are not accepted for bonds. Our bail guide explains bond types and refunds.
↑ Back to the question list5. How can I send money?
The jail's deposit service takes deposits online, through its app, by phone at 866-516-0115 or at the lobby kiosk. The trust account pays for commissary. Family can also order hygiene items, not food, from the commissary company's website. See our money guide and commissary guide.
↑ Back to the question list6. How do phone calls work?
Only inmates can place calls. You must verify your identity with the phone provider first, by making a deposit or opening an account with the deposit service. Prepaid accounts cost less than collect calls. Messages and approved photos go through the same service. See our phone guide and messaging guide.
↑ Back to the question list7. What are the mail rules?
Personal letters, pictures and drawings are now scanned and shown on the inmate tablet. Address them to Pulaski County Jail, KY, the inmate's first and last legal name and identifier, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131, with your full name and street address. Money orders and attorney mail still go to the jail at 300 Hail Knob Road, Somerset, KY 42503, never to Phoenix. An inmate may keep only five photos in the cell; extras go back or into property. Use pencil or blue or black ink on plain white paper. No cards, drawings, colored ink, stationery, stamps, staples or mail from other jails. Photos must be real prints, 4 by 6 or smaller. See our mail guide.
↑ Back to the question list8. How can an inmate get a lawyer?
Those who qualify are given the Somerset Trial Office of the public defender (203 East Mount Vernon Street, Suite A, Somerset, KY 42501; 833-514-8986). The judge checks finances at arraignment. Family members who know the case number can phone the office to find out who is handling it. Read our court guide.
↑ Back to the question list9. Could someone held in Somerset have another warrant?
Yes. The Pulaski County Detention Center also houses Lincoln arrests, and the area draws people from Wayne, Russell and Laurel as well. Questions about local warrants go to the sheriff's office at 606-678-5145. For Monticello, Jamestown, London and beyond, the courts' free guest case search covers every county statewide in one search.
When a warrant survives a release, a defense lawyer can book the surrender at the detention center and press for bond. The circuit clerk at 50 Public Square, Somerset, KY 42501, answers at 606-677-4029 about missed court.
↑ Back to the question list10. How are juveniles handled?
Youths are housed apart from adults. State law requires a detention hearing within 48 hours, weekends and holidays excluded (KRS 610.265). The Department of Juvenile Justice (502-573-2738) chooses placement and tells a parent or guardian.
↑ Back to the question list11. How do I request mugshots?
Written open records requests for mugshots go to the jail at 300 Hail Knob Road, Somerset, KY 42503. News media can also ask the sheriff's office. Photos taken by ICE require the ICE records request form. Federal mugshots are kept private unless the Marshals post one while looking for a fugitive.
↑ Back to the question list12. What about federal inmates?
The jail holds some federal inmates; housing is the Marshals' call. Federal arrests from Pulaski go to the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky, 310 South Main Street, London, KY 40741, 606-877-7910, where a magistrate judge holds a detention hearing. Search the federal prison locator after sentencing. Somerset families can phone the U.S. Marshals London office, 606-864-6993.

- Detainees are often taken to an ICE center in another state.
