Ascension Parish Jail Inmate Search
Ascension Parish Inmate Search and Mugshots, Donaldsonville
Ascension Parish's sheriff runs a free inmate inquiry where you can look up anyone held at the parish jail on Lemannville Cutoff Road outside Donaldsonville, including some people housed off site. It shows housing, release dates and booking details, though no mugshots appeared when we checked. This guide covers searching, a blank result, bond and court contacts, warrants, federal and immigration holds, and every police agency from Gonzales to Sorrento. Questions the search cannot answer go to 225-473-8674.
1. Where is the parish jail?
- Ascension Parish Jail: 2384 Lemannville Cutoff Road, Donaldsonville, LA 70346.
- Jail operations line: 225-473-8674.
Arrests from Gonzales, Prairieville, St. Amant, Sorrento, Geismar and the east bank all end up here, even though most of the population lives across the river from the jail.
↑ Back to the question list2. How does the inmate inquiry work?
- Open the sheriff's online inquiry page.
- Enter a name, subject number or booking number, or pick a booking date range.
- Open the record for race, gender, birth date, height, weight, housing and release date.
Copy down the subject number, because it speeds up deposits and calls.
↑ Back to the question list3. Can I find an Ascension mugshot?
The photo column and the detail pages we opened in October 2026 were empty. Anyone, press included, can request a booking photo from the sheriff's Records Division at 225-473-8674. Act 281 has let Louisiana agencies release photos before conviction since August 1, 2024, and a pay-for-removal website must delete a photo free within 7 days for someone acquitted, dismissed, pardoned or expunged. For immigration detainees, file with ICE FOIA. Federal booking photos stay with the U.S. Marshals.
↑ Back to the question list4. Why does the record show a different building?
When beds run short, Ascension sometimes houses people at other parishes' jails. The housing field on the inquiry record names the place. Rules for visits and deposits differ at each site, so phone that jail before you drive.
↑ Back to the question list5. The search shows nothing. Where else could they be?
They may still be in booking, already out on bond, or held by a neighbor parish. Gonzales police also keep short holds before transport. Check: - East Baton Rouge Parish Prison - Livingston Parish Detention Center - Iberville Parish Jail - St. James Parish Jail in Convent
Or call 225-473-8674 with the full name and birthday.
↑ Back to the question list6. What address do Ascension letters go to?
Address letters to the person's full name and subject number at Ascension Parish Jail, 2384 Lemannville Cutoff Road, Donaldsonville, LA 70346, with your full return address. Call 225-473-8674 to confirm current mail rules before sending photos or papers. See our mail guide and tablet messaging guide.
↑ Back to the question list7. How do visits at the Lemannville Cutoff Road jail work?
Call 225-473-8674 to learn the current visit times and sign-up steps before driving to Donaldsonville; the jail sits on the west bank, a long drive from Gonzales or Prairieville. Every visitor needs a photo ID. Our visiting guide covers the general rules.
↑ Back to the question list8. How do I put money on an Ascension inmate account?
The sheriff's website has an inmate deposits page that links the approved deposit service; use that link, and have the subject number from the inquiry ready. Account money pays for commissary goods and calling time. Our commissary guide, deposit guide and phone guide explain the basics.
↑ Back to the question list9. Was a summons issued instead?
Plenty of misdemeanors and traffic cases end with a summons and a court date, so no jail record exists. Gonzales has its own city court for offenses inside city limits; the district court hears the rest. Missing that date means a warrant.
↑ Back to the question list10. How soon is the first hearing?
Under Article 230.1, anyone still locked up gets a judge's review within 72 hours, leaving out weekends and holidays. The 23rd Judicial District judge reviews bail and appoints counsel when needed. A blown deadline means release on recognizance.
↑ Back to the question list11. How is bail decided here?
A 23rd Judicial District judge weighs the offense, history and flight risk. Families can post cash, put up property, get a signature bond if allowed, or use a licensed bondsman, whose premium is capped at 12 percent. Our Ascension bail guide lists where each kind is accepted.
↑ Back to the question list12. Where does bond get paid?
Ask the jail at 225-473-8674 for the amount first. The Clerk of Court keeps two offices for bond paperwork: - Gonzales: 607 E. Worthey Street, 1st floor, Gonzales, LA 70737, 225-621-8400. - Donaldsonville: 300 Houmas Street, Donaldsonville, LA 70346, 225-473-9866.
Bring the booking details and photo ID.
↑ Back to the question list13. Which offices handle the case?
- District attorney, Gonzales: 208 E. Railroad Avenue, Gonzales, LA 70737, 225-644-3333.
- District attorney, administration: 305 Chetimatches Street, Donaldsonville, LA 70346, 225-473-6777.
- 23rd Judicial District Court: sits in both courthouses.
See our Ascension court guide for each step.
↑ Back to the question list14. Is there a free defense lawyer?
Yes, for those who qualify. Eligibility is settled at the first court date, where the person can ask the judge for counsel. The public defender is at 828 S. Irma Boulevard, Suite 102, Gonzales, LA 70737, 225-647-9673.
↑ Back to the question list15. Where can I see the case number and charges?
The online inquiry gives the charges listed at booking. For the charges actually filed and the next court date, call either clerk office with the person's name and birthday. The district attorney decides the final charges, so they can differ from the booking list.
↑ Back to the question list16. What if they need medicine or care?
Call the jail at 225-473-8674 and ask for medical. List each drug, its dose and the pharmacy that fills it, and medical staff will decide what gets given. If you fear the person may hurt themselves, report it right away.
↑ Back to the question list17. How long is release after bond?
Several hours is normal while records clear and property is returned. The release date on the online inquiry updates once the person is out, and the jail at 225-473-8674 can confirm the timing before you drive to Donaldsonville.
↑ Back to the question list18. What if they are sentenced to state prison?
They wait at the parish jail until a state bed opens, then go to a DOC reception center. Locate them by phone at 225-383-4580 using a DOC number, or else the person's name with date of birth. Browse Louisiana state prisons for each location.
↑ Back to the question list19. Is someone wanted on a warrant?
Ring the Ascension sheriff at 225-473-8674 about parish warrants. If the arrest would come from inside Gonzales, the Gonzales police at 225-647-7511 are the ones to ask. There is no posted list to check, and Louisiana has no statewide public lookup, so a call is the way to know. If the person turns themselves in at Ascension Parish Jail with a lawyer and the bond already arranged, the stay is usually short. Was it a missed court date? Then the Clerk of Court at 607 E. Worthey Street, Gonzales, 225-621-8400, can tell you about asking the judge for a new one.
↑ Back to the question list20. What happens to a child arrested here?
A juvenile judge decides whether anyone younger than 17 stays in detention; the adult jail is not used for them. A 17-year-old charged on or after April 19, 2024, goes to adult court.
↑ Back to the question list21. What if agents filed federal charges?
Those cases go to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, clerk at 777 Florida Street, Suite 139, Baton Rouge, LA 70801, 225-389-3500. At the Baton Rouge courthouse a magistrate judge applies the Bail Reform Act (18 U.S.C. 3142); there is no bail chart, just release conditions or detention after pretrial services reports. The U.S. Marshals office for Baton Rouge is at 777 Florida Street, Room G-48, Baton Rouge, LA 70801, 225-389-0364. Sentenced federal prisoners appear in the BOP inmate locator.
↑ Back to the question list22. What does an ICE detainer mean for them?
- Prints from booking go into federal databases, and ICE may file a detainer.
- A paid parish bond does not lift it.
- The parish jail can hold them for as long as 48 more hours while ICE arranges pickup.
- If ICE does not arrive, the hold expires.
- Under Act 314 of 2024, Louisiana agencies are told to cooperate.
Search the ICE detainee locator by A-number and birth country, or name and birthday. The New Orleans Field Office is at 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087, and Ascension families can call its detention line at 888-351-4024.
↑ Back to the question list23. Can I get custody alerts?
Yes. LA VINE, Louisiana's free victim notification service, sends a text, call or email when someone held in Donaldsonville is released or transferred. Register with the person's name or subject number.
↑ Back to the question list24. Could a bail call be fake?
Yes. A real deputy won't text you for prepaid cards or payment-app transfers. End the call and dial the Donaldsonville jail at 225-473-8674, then pay only the jail, a clerk office, or a bondsman you chose.
