Jefferson Davis Parish Jail Inmate Search
Jefferson Davis Parish Inmate Search and Mugshots, Jennings
Searching for someone held in Jefferson Davis Parish starts with the sheriff's free inmate roster, which shows each person's mugshot, charges, bond, age and booking number. Everyone on it is held at the parish's consolidated jail, finished in 2019 at 1704 Highway 90 West (Shankland Avenue), Jennings, LA 70546. On October 27, 2026 the roster listed 165 people, and a second view sorts recent releases by time. The sheriff's non-emergency line, 337-821-2100, is staffed 24 hours. This page covers the roster, the sheriff's weekday bonding hours, scanned mail, the 31st district courthouse, Marshals and ICE holds, and the right police number for Jennings, Welsh, Lake Arthur, Elton or Fenton.
Where is the Jefferson Davis Parish jail?
The consolidated jail replaced a 62-bed jail built in 1964. Use these contacts: - Parish jail: 1704 Highway 90 West (Shankland Avenue), Jennings, LA 70546. - Sheriff's office, 24 hours: 337-821-2100; administrative office at 1530 US-90, Jennings (mail P.O. The state directory still prints an older street address on East Plaquemine; the sheriff's own site gives the Highway 90 location.
↑ Back to the question listHow do I use the Jefferson Davis roster?
- Open the current roster and accept the notice.
- Search by last name, or leave it sorted by booking time to see the newest arrivals first.
- Open the entry for the photo, charges, bond on each charge and booking number.
- If the person just left, switch to the released list, which is sorted by release time.
Write down the booking number; deposits and bond paperwork need it.
↑ Back to the question listAre Jefferson Davis mugshots online?
Yes. Each roster entry we opened in October 2026 carried a booking photo taken at intake. Copies are handled by the sheriff's office at 337-821-3850. Under Act 281 of 2024, in force since August 1, 2024, Louisiana agencies may share booking photos before a conviction, and pay-to-remove websites have 7 days to drop a mugshot for free once the person proves the charge was dismissed, or that a jury acquitted, a pardon came through or the record was expunged. For immigration detainees, file through ICE's records request page. The U.S. Marshals keep federal booking photos private. Lake Charles and Jennings news outlets sometimes use these roster photos in arrest stories.
↑ Back to the question listWhat if the roster does not show them yet?
Jailers fingerprint, photograph and process each arrest before the entry posts, so a fresh booking can take a while. Ring 337-821-2100 and give the legal name plus birthday. If they were arrested near the parish line they may be held next door: - Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center in Lake Charles - Acadia Parish jail in Crowley - Cameron and Allen parish jails for arrests to the south and north
↑ Back to the question listCould it just be a ticket?
Yes. Police in Jennings and the smaller towns write citations for many misdemeanor and traffic offenses, and those cases are heard in city or mayor's court rather than leading to a booking. - Jennings City Court: 210 S. State Street, Jennings, LA 70546 (mail P.O. Box 609), 337-821-5514.
The date on the ticket still has to be kept, or a warrant follows.
↑ Back to the question listWhen will a judge see them?
Jailers make sure each arrestee sees a judge within 72 hours of arrest, as Article 230.1 requires; weekends and holidays do not count. At that appearance a 31st Judicial District judge sets bail and names a public defender when the accused cannot pay counsel. Jailers who miss the deadline must let the person go on recognizance.
↑ Back to the question listHow do I find the bond amount?
Every booking on the roster shows the bond set on each charge. When a charge shows no amount, the bench may still be reviewing it, or some outside agency has placed a hold. After a judge sets bond, jailers update the file and help the person reach a bondsman. Our Jefferson Davis bail guide explains how bail is set.
↑ Back to the question listHow do I post bond in Jennings?
The sheriff accepts three kinds of bond, and only on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: - Cash bond: the full amount in cash, held until the case closes. - Surety bond: a bondsman posts it; you pay the bondsman 12 percent of the bond plus any fees the bondsman adds. - Property bond: get a property description from the Tax Assessor, then have the Clerk of Court run a title search showing no judgments, liens or mortgages. The land must be in Jefferson Davis Parish and assessed at least at the bond amount; a mobile home will not qualify. Bring the paperwork to the sheriff's office for approval.
Every bond carries a $30 paperwork fee, and property bonds can have other costs.

Request one before the judge at the 72-hour hearing. Jefferson Davis defenders work from 300 North State Street, Room 203, Jennings, LA 70546, 337-824-4900, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jail calls are recorded, so case details should wait for a meeting with the lawyer.
↑ Back to the question listWhat if they need medication?
Jailers hand out prescribed medication on every 12-hour shift. Call 337-821-2100 and ask for the jail; give the medicine names, doses, doctor and pharmacy. Tell staff at once if you think the person may harm themselves.
↑ Back to the question listHow do I put money on their books and buy commissary?
Inmates order commissary every Wednesday before noon and receive it the next business day, so money must be on the account by then. You can: - Use the kiosk in the sheriff's dispatch lobby at 1604 Highway 90 West with cash, a debit card or a credit card. - Add money online through the link on the sheriff's corrections page. - Order a commissary package online to be delivered straight to the person.
Each of these methods may add a fee. Our deposit guide goes into more detail.
↑ Back to the question listWhen can they call home?
Phones in the cells work from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The person can buy phone cards through commissary, or the family can open a prepaid account at 800-682-0707 or online. Our phone guide and messaging guide explain both.
↑ Back to the question listHow do I send a letter?
Since July 22, 2024, the jail no longer hands out paper mail except legal mail. Letters go to a processing center at 4506 Marlena St, Unit 23, Bossier City, LA 71111, where they are scanned and posted to the person's tablet or kiosk within 24 hours. Address the envelope with the person's name and the PIN shown on the sheriff's sample envelope, and include your return address. Money orders, books, magazines and packages are sent back. ↑ Back to the question listHow long does release take?
Because bonds are accepted only on weekday business hours, someone arrested on a Friday night often waits until Monday unless a judge orders a signature release. Once bond posts, booking out takes a few hours while jailers look for detainers and hand back belongings. Phone first, then drive to Highway 90.

State Street, 337-824-1160, can say what it takes to get a new one.
↑ Back to the question listWhat happens to children under 17?
A juvenile judge in the 31st district decides whether a child is held. Jefferson Davis runs no juvenile lockup, so a child ordered held goes elsewhere, often Calcasieu Parish juvenile detention; the sheriff's office can confirm where. Since April 19, 2024, 17-year-olds are charged as adults.
