The Office of Juvenile Justice controls the juvenile detention and youth services for the region and provides not only housing for juveniles who have been arrested as well as providing other social services for the juveniles as well as the families who need them. The Louisiana Model for Secure Care provides the outline and regulations that all of the facilities in the area must follow, and they assist any of the locations or partners around them that need it. It creates a therapeutic environment where the focus is on the youth interacting and engaging with other students, staff, family, and others they come in contact with. Each of the meetings and activities is focused on providing positive environments with a goal of preparing the juveniles to reenter their community and be productive members of that community. Additional treatments include changing thought processes, anger management, victim awareness, substance abuse treatments, healthy masculinity, preparation for release, behavior management programs, and mental health treatments. Rather than focus on a punishment factor, the programs all work to improve skills, focus, decision making, and social interactions to prepare the juveniles for their future.
