The Calhoun County Juvenile Home accepts juveniles who are 11 to 17 years old, with those who are 18 or older being assigned to the local adult facility. It is operated on a basis of cognitive behavioral approaches with a licensed therapist who provides counseling in both individual and group settings. A behavioral program is in place that rewards positive behavior and choices, allowing each juvenile to earn additional privileges. While they await their court dates, or they are serving an assigned term at the facility, students will attend academic classes onsite with licensed teachers, but may also do homework and assignments from their regular school if their parents drop off and pick up the work. All meals, snacks, clothing, bedding, and other necessities will be provided to them by the facility. Any medication can be dropped off at the front desk in original packaging clearly labelled with name, name of medication, dosage and instructions, date filled, prescribing doctor, and expiry, and it will be provided to the youth according to the instructions on the medication. Full medical and dental care is provided for any of the residents.
