Both of these facilities in Scott County were built by detention center contractor Pauly Jail Building Company. The current facility, the county's Law Enforcement Center, contains a total of 160 different cells, and houses both sentenced and pre-trial adult male and female offenders. It also detains juvenile offenders for less than a day while transport is arranged to the Scott County Juvenile Alternative Center, certified for juveniles, ages 11-17. The jail also has a full service laundry, kitchen, medical clinic and a courtroom for arraignments to serve the needs of the inmates.

Scott County's population is growing fast; it has gone from under 90,000 people when the jail was built to close to 160,000 in 2023. So while it would appear that they will soon need a new jail to keep up with the growth, the current facility is more than enough space. And even if they did run out of space, which they won't, there is another county jail across the river in Carver County, less than five miles away, that has enough extra beds to handle the overflow.
The Scott County Jail and Law Enforcement Center is located at 301 Fuller Street South, in Shakopee, MN 55379. You can call the jail 24 hours a day at 952-496-8314 to find out information about an inmate, or the ways to communicate with an inmate while they are there. The Scott County Jail also has an online Inmate Jail Roster that is updated in real time. It provides the county with the offender's mugshot, criminal charges, inmate booking number, MNI, age, and exact date and time of arrest. With this information you can also look up the offender's criminal court case online to keep track of it while it works its way through the courts.
If you wish to collect property from an inmate house at the Scott County Jail, you can pick it up Monday thru Friday during the hours of 8:00AM to 4:30PM. You musty have a valid, government issued photo ID and be the person designated by the inmate to do so. There is a form they need to fill out and sign. One set of clothing must remain at the jail however.
There are also certain items you can drop off for an inmate:
- Certain medical items and devices that a jail nurse or shift supervisor has authorized.
- A set of clothing suitable for court or a jury trial once a trial date has been set.
- Items need for Community Release. These items must be authorized by a jail supervisor.

What happens during booking at Scott County Jail?
After arrest, individuals are processed at Scott County Jail, where they undergo a series of steps that determine their charges and whether they’ll be released on their own recognizance, allowed to post bail, or held until their court date.
The first rule for anyone arrested is to remain silent. Anything they say can be used in court, so it’s best to speak only to an attorney about the incident.
Here are the typical stages of the booking process at Scott County Jail:
- Verifying the person’s identity.
- Taking mugshots.
- Questions regarding medical and mental health history, along with drug and gang affiliations.
- Collecting DNA if necessary.
- Conducting a physical search.
- Confiscating personal belongings.
- Providing a phone call.
If you need details about an offender’s bail or bond, contact the facility at 952-496-8314.
How do you post bail in Scott County?
If someone is taken to Scott County Jail in Shakopee for booking, the next steps depend on their case:
1. The individual may be released without bail, under a promise to appear at a court hearing.
2. They could be held in custody until their trial.
3. They may post a bail or bond for release. To find out the exact bail amount, call 952-496-8314.
Bail payments can be handled in various ways.
- Cash bonds are paid in full, normally at the jail's bonding window or with the clerk of court, by cash, cashier's check or money order, and card payments are often possible through a kiosk in the lobby or an online vendor for a convenience fee; have the inmate's full name and booking number ready, and reach the jail at 952-496-8314.
- Licensed bail bond agents in Scott County can facilitate payment.
- Property bonds are available in many courts: an owner may pledge land or a home after proving clear title and equity of at least the bond amount (often double) with the deed and a recent tax or appraisal figure, and the court that set bail decides whether to accept it.
