About the Lamar County Jail

Found in Purvis, Mississippi, the Lamar County Jail houses all of the inmates and offenders throughout Lamar County and provides a safe, secure, and positive environment for incarceration. Both newly arrested and those who are serving a sentence will be housed at this location and both their own safety and that of the community are the top concerns for all staff and law enforcement officers.

Both male and female offenders are located in the Lamar County Jail and are housed in separate pods, for information on a detainee the staff can be contacted at 601-794-1088.

As they are responsible for all care of detainees, there is a medical program that addresses all of the medical needs of inmates, providing them with ongoing care for chronic conditions as well as providing responsive care for any illness or injury that may occur during their incarceration, and ensure access to mental health care as required.

All of the inmates will be provided with healthy meals three times each day, will have access to items that are provided by their family or friends as well as clothing from the jail itself and have their laundry done regularly.

Along with educational programming, reentry programs, and recreational activities, inmates who are considered to be qualified through their behavior and charges to engage in the work program may do so.

The inmate work program both allows inmates to maintain engaged in employable skills but also provides the opportunity to stay active in their own community through performing work and maintenance tasks.

Access is also provided to mail services through the Post Office, as well as access to phones, and visits. To support a loved one who is incarcerated families and friends may fund their commissary through the kiosk in the lobby or online, and they can create an account to fund and accept phone calls from the inmate. Additionally, each inmate will receive one free call for 5 minutes each week.

Lamar County Jail now offers Jail ATM Tablet Rentals to their inmates.


Jail ATM is the same company that handles inmate money deposits and other services. Inmates can use their commissary accounty to order these.

The tablets can be rented on a daily basis and while not directly connected to the internet, the inmates can use them for many activities.

All inmates receive some free time on the tablets each day. Purchasing a Gold Pass allows inmates access to the tablet for an extended period of time without interruption. The current fee for a 24-hour rental is $4.99, however Lamar County Jail may have a monthly rental plan. The tablet should last 5-7 hours on a single charge. An inmate with a Gold Pass, may return the discharged tablet and take another one provided there is still time remaining on the Gold Pass.
