About the Churchill County Detention Center

Located within the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, the Churchill County Detention Center has a capacity of 120 and houses both misdemeanor and felony arrests pretrial as well as for short sentences with almost all inmates spending less than 12 months incarcerated at the jail.

Upon booking each inmate will be classified for security needs and other considerations, and depending upon the ratio of the classifications the functioning capacity may be as low as between 65 and 80. Male and female inmates are housed in separate housing units, as are serious charges and minor misdemeanors, along with other considerations.

Inmates will all have time out of their cells each day to shower, eat, have exercise, and have access to phones and other activities. Inmates are able to make outgoing calls only, and will be unable to accept calls, however, they are able to both send and receive mail on weekdays through the Post Office.

All mail must have a full return address and contain the name of the sender, or it will be refused, and it will be opened and checked for any contraband.

Recent Bookings & Arrests

What happens during booking at Churchill County Detention Center?

After arrest, individuals are processed at Churchill County Detention Center, where they undergo a series of steps that determine their charges and whether they’ll be released on their own recognizance, allowed to post bail, or held until their court date.

The first rule for anyone arrested is to remain silent. Anything they say can be used in court, so it’s best to speak only to an attorney about the incident.

Here are the typical stages of the booking process at Churchill County Detention Center:

  • Verifying the person’s identity.
  • Taking mugshots.
  • Questions regarding medical and mental health history, along with drug and gang affiliations.
  • Collecting DNA if necessary.
  • Conducting a physical search.
  • Confiscating personal belongings.
  • Providing a phone call.

If you need details about an offender’s bail or bond, contact the facility at 775-423-1596.

Inmate Bail and Bonding

How do you post bail in Churchill County?

If someone is taken to Churchill County Detention Center in Fallon for booking, the next steps depend on their case:

1. The individual may be released without bail, under a promise to appear at a court hearing.
2. They could be held in custody until their trial.
3. They may post a bail or bond for release. To find out the exact bail amount, call 775-423-1596.

Bail payments can be handled in various ways.

  • Cash bonds are paid in full, normally at the jail's bonding window or with the clerk of court, by cash, cashier's check or money order, and card payments are often possible through a kiosk in the lobby or an online vendor for a convenience fee; have the inmate's full name and booking number ready, and reach the jail at 775-423-1596.
  • Licensed bail bond agents in Churchill County can facilitate payment.
  • Property bonds are available in many courts: an owner may pledge land or a home after proving clear title and equity of at least the bond amount (often double) with the deed and a recent tax or appraisal figure, and the court that set bail decides whether to accept it.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Churchill County Detention Center?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Churchill County Detention Center uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Churchill County Detention Center first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the payee the jail names (check with the jail first) and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order. Never mail cash or a personal check.
