About the Chenango County Jail
With a capacity of up to 133 inmates at any time, the Chenango County Jail is built on 5 housing units, and each unit is contained. Upon entry to any of the housing units there is access to the day room, laundry room, program use, and an exercise yard, all of which are separated from those of the other housing units. This prevents inmates from other housing areas to interact, and allows for those who are involved in the same case to remain separated throughout their trial and while serving their sentence. Inmates are permitted to have 5 books or magazines, 1 wedding ring, a bible and religious article, legal materials, photographs, and some basic clothing items, as well as their glasses or dentures. All medications may be provided to be distributed to the inmate, and a set of clothing for court appearances will be kept with their personal belongings. Inmates who choose to work within the facility during their incarceration will be permitted to have one additional visiting hour on Wednesdays at 7pm. Visitation: 8am Saturday and Sunday with two visits of one hour each, every week. Visitors must register at (607) 337-1967, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and must arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled visit.
