Pitt Juvenile Detention

Within the Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center there are 18 beds to house juveniles after their arrest. They may remain in the facility if they are waiting for a court date, if they are waiting to be transferred to a long term facility such as a Youth Development Center, or if they are serving a short detention after adjudication. Upon arrival, each of the youth will undergo an assessment that includes a mental health screening, with a more detailed screening requested as needed, a substance abuse assessment that leads to further assessment and a treatment plan when needed, and a medical screening that results in immediate treatment when needed and ongoing treatment during their stay. A program is created for each indivudal to meet their needs, including school mirroring the local public school, meals that are healthy and consistent, and treatments as needed. The goal of each program is to provide the knowledge, life skills, and social skills that are needed for a successful future beyond their detention and to reduce recidivism.
