About the Allen County Jail

Allen County Jail has found itself on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1833 the original jail still stands, even after renovations that upgraded the inside of the building and put correct security in place, with the façade undisturbed.

The Allen County Justice Center was opened in 1990 and is an up to date jail with video visitation and medical facilities. For the protection and health of all inmates there is mental health services available around the clock, as well as regular and emergency health care.

Visitation is offered via video either in person or through home computers or even cell phones. Strict rules must be followed to access the video visitation, and any rules broken may result in the suspension or cancellation of visitation rights for the inmate. All visitors must be preregistered with the jail and dress appropriately, as well as being free of drugs or alcohol. Inmates are allowed two visits each week, and while children can visit, they must remain with a parent or guardian at all times when on the property. They must also be prepared for and signed in at least fifteen minutes before their visitation time in order to be approved for the visit.

The visitation schedule begins at 12:30 pm and ends by 8:30 pm, with times varying depending upon the last name of the inmate, on Saturday and Sunday only.

Video visitation may be had any day between 8 am and 2 pm and again from 5 pm until 10 pm. The new justice center also houses the Common Pleas Courts, the Allen County Sheriff’s Offices.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility.

Friends and family of inmates in the Allen County Jail can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. They can also send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.

All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below.  If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 419-993-1407.
