Canadian County Juvenile

With 28 beds, this secure facility opened in 1999, and offers services not only to Canadian County but also to surrounding counties with contracts to house their juveniles as well. The Gary E. Miller Children’s Justice Center is not only the location of the Canadian County Juvenile Detention Center, with individual rooms for each youth, common areas for reading and recreation, visiting areas, gaming spaces, and both indoor and outdoor recreation and exercise areas, as well as the Camp Hope program that offers mentoring to at risk youth, and the CCEC program that offers alternative school for those who are unsuccessful in the traditional setting. All staff are trained in trauma informed care, and mental health programs are offered, but it is not considered a treatment center and does not offer extensive treatment for addictions or other concerns. All basic needs are provided including healthy meals, medical care including providing prescription medication brought in by parents, socializing, recreation, education, and there remains a focus on both safety and security. Youth will find themselves in the detention center after an arrest, while they await their court date or if they are waiting for adjudication, or if they are assigned to a short period of detention in their adjudication. Mail: 7905 East Highway 66 El Reno, OK 73036 All mail may be inspected for contraband as well as for any illegal or banned topics for safety reasons. Phones: Juveniles can call their parents and guardians during free time but will not be able to accept incoming calls, and all calls may be monitored.
