The Philadelphia Youth Study Center was a department within the adult detention facility that housed youth who were arrested and charged with crimes. It was closed permanently for several reasons, and those juveniles are now housed int he Philadelphia Youth Detention Center. It covers 150,000 square feet, and provides a wide range of services for youth throughout the county. The main purpose of the facility is to house short term residential detention for juveniles who are delinquent, waiting for their court date, waiting for their adjudication, or who are adjudicated to a term of detention. Within the building are living quarters, learning classrooms and educational spaces, dining areas, counseling facilities, administrative spaces, and 10,000 square feet for the medical and dental section to provide services as needed. All medical care, mental health, and dental care are provided for the youth who are in residence. They will also receive healthy meals and snacks, as well as clothing and bedding that is regularly laundered, cleaning services for common areas, and activities to improve life and social skills. Mail: Mail is permitted, however it must be sent via mail service and may not be delivered by hand to the building. It may also be checked for contraband before final delivery, or with the juvenile before they may take it to their living area. Phones: Residents may access phones in the common areas to call parents or guardians, but the facility is not capable of accepting incoming calls. Visitation: Only parents, guardians, and other approved visitors will be permitted to visit, and they must book in advance and bring photo identification.Inmate Services
