The sprawling 88,000 square foot brick building, built in 1995, houses 375 inmates at any time and accepts both male and female offenders arrested for both felonies and misdemeanor crimes in Pike County who are waiting for their trial or waiting for their sentence, while others will be waiting for a transfer.
With a focus on rehabilitation, there are several programs and opportunities within the facility to encourage inmates to learn new skills, prepare for their release, remain in contact with friends and family who are not incarcerated, and grow healthy relationship.
Female offenders are offered Helping Offenders Promote Excellence, while anyone may participate in Actively Reducing Recidivism Opens Windows, as well as Correctional Offenders Reintegrating Effective, all which focus on preparing for life after incarceration and ways to prevent returning to jail.
Male offenders may also attend the Motivating Offenders to Reintegrate Effectively.
All basic needs are also provided at Pike County Correctional Facility including healthy meals, recreation activities, exercise, hygiene facilities and supplies, and medical and mental health care.
Families and friends may assist these inmates in their success by helping to provide for their needs and wants, sending care packages, adding money to their commissary account, or add funds to their phone and commissary accounts through the kiosks that are located within the lobby of the facility.
To further offer support and to maintain healthy relationships, visits are allowed for all inmates who have not lost their visiting privileges. These visits are for 30 minutes and may have two visitors for 15 minutes each rather than one visitor for the entire time. If the inmate has a court date approaching, they may have a visitor bring them clothing for court, which will be exchanged for their other outside clothing, and stored for them until their release or their next court date.
Male inmates have visits on Wednesdays between 6:45pm and 10:30 pm, Tuesday from 6:45 to 8:30 pm, Thursdays between 6:45-8:30pm and again 8:45 pm to 10:30 pm, Saturdays 8:30 to 11:30am then again 6:45pm to 10:30pm.
Female visitors have access to visits Monday to Friday from 4pm to 5:30pm, then additional hours on Friday from 8:30am to 11:30 am, then 12:45-2:45pm, and 6:45-10:30pm. Within these hours each housing until will have their own time frame, requiring inmates and visitors to speak before the visit and confirm the housing location and visitation time.
