Juvenile offenders who are 11-18 years old, or older if they have already been adjudicated or assigned to the facility before their birthday, will find themselves housed at the South Carolina Juvenile Justice Detention Center. The center has a capacity of 72 and is a short term holding facility that houses youth for up to 30 days. As a pretrial detention center all youth who are within are newly arrested and waiting for their detention hearing that occurs most often withint 24 hours of arrest, those who are being detained until their trial for the safety of themselves or others, or who are waiting to be transferred to an alternative location. Along with housing they also provide safety for residents within and the community surrounding it, secure buildings, and the care that is required. Healthy meals are provided three times each day and a snack, recreation space is provided as well as physical education and activities, and there are classrooms to continue with the current grade for each student. Professionals are available for all medical care and mental health care needs, and each of the residents will be provided with the tools they need to build successful lives within their communities.
