About the Day County Jail
Within the area that is covered by the Day County Sheriff you will also find the communities of Andover, Bristol, Pierpoint, Roslyn, and Waubay. The sheriff is also responsible for the operations of the local jail, which houses all who are arrested within those areas. The detention center is a small facility that has a total of 13 beds in separate cells, allowing each inmate to have their own personal space and preventing overcrowding. This facility has special certifications that not only allow it to house both male and female adult inmates, but also houses juvenile inmates when needed for the Day County area. Surrounding counties have access to this facility for their short term juvenile holds as well. Inmates are permitted to have a few items from home and things to make them feel more comfortable including some basic toiletries, books or magazines, person underwear and socks from home, and for women bras that do not have underwires. All other clothing and bedding will be provided by the facility, and laundry will be done regularly. A work release program is available for those who qualify and will allow them to leave during the day for their job and return after each work shift. To fund the phone cards and other needs of inmates, reliancetelephone.com will allow for deposits and to create a phone account to allow inmates to call their friends and family. They are also permitted to have visits, however due to covid there are restrictions to video visits at this time, through reliancetelephone.com, and this has led to a lack of set visiting hours and allowing inmates to make and receive video calls on their phones when their schedule allows.
