The Sheriff is located in an adjoining building at 3200 E Highway 34 in Pierre, South Dakota. They accept both male and female inmates to their 184 bed jail, which also has an additional 16 beds for the juvenile services center.
The Hughes County Jail only uses about 50 of their beds. The rest are contracted out to other counties that do not have a jail, grossing Hughes County about $4 million a year in revenue.
The sheriff covers 800 miles of land and has 8 deputies with 49 staff members.
