Recurring issues at this facility include difficulty keeping detention staff, and an overload of incarcerated people charged with meth use, which means the same people keep coming back over and over. Many meth users use jail as a time to catch up on their health as their lives on the outside revolve around no sleep, no healthy food, no exercise, and 24/7 drug abuse.
The Obion County Jail is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Obion County as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.

The 159-bed red roofed, single story brick facility that can be viewed best from Everett Blvd., is shared by both the Obion County Sheriff and the Obion County Jail. The complex is located in Union City, Tennessee.
