Upper East Tennessee Regional Juvenile Detention Information

The Upper East Tennessee Regional Juvenile Detention Center serves several counties in the region including Carter, Greene, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington. It offers both a safe and secure facility for youth to wait for their court date or their release, with full services and all of their basic needs met. It offers individual cells and housing units that are based upon age, gender, seriousness of charges, and any history of detention and behavior while in detention. Technology performs well in the updated building with security cameras and systems to help monitor the residents and manage the door locks and other systems. During the average stay of 16 days, students are provided their regular academic classes, programs to manage any substance use concerns and to address managing emotions, mental health, and life skills. Medical and dental care are provided, and mental health services are present onsite to care for the emotional and mental health of each of the youth. Activities are planned for recreational time, and there is access to phones for contacting their parents or guardians, space for indoor and outdoor activities and sports, and free time for writing letters or other tasks. Residents can read books located in the library and will have access to all the technology needed for their classes.
