Hutchinson County Inmate Lookup: Who Sits in the Stinnett Jail

Arrests made in Borger, Fritch, Stinnett, Sanford and the countryside between them all funnel into a single adult lockup, the county jail on North Main, 500 North Main, Stinnett, TX 79083. Below, learn to find someone in that jail, read roster cards and mugshots, and handle visits, letters, deposits, lawyers and hearings.

Start with the Sheriff's current inmate roster. Each card lists name, age, booking date, the arresting agency and every charge, and most add a bond figure and a booking photo. The roster itself warns it can run behind, and people who have left show up on a separate releases list.

Jail staff pick up at 806-878-4012. Have their legal name and birthday handy, and ask about the charges, the bond and what happens next in court. For release, turn to our bail page. For hearings, turn to our court page.

1. Using the Hutchinson County jail roster, step by step

Texas jail inspectors rated this jail for 70 beds in 2022, and in early November 2026 the roster held about 50 names. Here is the quickest way through it:

  1. Pull up the roster page on a phone or computer.
  2. Use your browser's find tool to type in the surname.
  3. Check the card for the booking date, which agency arrested them, each charge and any bond.
  4. Jot down the booking date and booking number if one is printed. Both help staff pull the file.
  5. If the card leaves questions, phone 806-878-4012.

The list can trail the jail's own records. For the latest bail, charges and case numbers, the Sheriff's page tells people to call the Detention Center.

2. No name on the roster: possible reasons

Common explanations for a name that isn't listed:

  • Booking isn't finished. Photos, prints and data entry take time before a card appears.
  • They bonded out or were let go. Look at the Sheriff's inmates recently released page.
  • They were transferred. An outside warrant, a federal hold or a prison move can take a person away from Stinnett.
  • The spelling differs. Try alternate spellings, a hyphenated surname or a married name.
  • They are 16 or younger. Juveniles never appear on the adult list.

The jail at 806-878-4012 can settle it. The Sheriff's main office, 1400 Veta Street, Borger, TX 79007, 806-274-6343, is open Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

3. Could a jail outside Hutchinson County hold them?

One adult jail serves the whole county: 500 North Main, Stinnett, TX 79083. Deputies, troopers and the three city police forces book there, and immigration holds show up on that same roster.

In 2022, a state count found a handful of the county's inmates housed in other jails, with the receiving jails unnamed. If the arrest was near the edge of the county, or jail staff mention a transfer, these neighboring jails are worth a call:

Staff at 806-878-4012 can say where a transferred inmate was sent.

4. Are mugshots on the Hutchinson County roster?

Yes. Most entries on the Sheriff's online roster carry a small booking photo, which is what most people mean by mugshots. A few cards have none.

To get a copy, or a photo for someone no longer listed, mail a written public information request to the Sheriff's Office, 1400 Veta Street, Borger, TX 79007, 806-274-6343. Under Gov't Code 552.108(c), basic facts about an arrest are public.

  • Some private sites charge $150 or more to remove a mugshot. Texas law (Bus. & Com. Code ch. 109) makes them fix wrong or partial records for free. Records a court has erased or sealed may not be posted at all.
  • ICE photos have to be requested on the agency's FOIA request page.
  • Federal booking photos mostly stay private, although the Marshals Service may publish one while searching for someone on the run.

5. Getting a release or transfer notice

Texas IVSS-Counties replaced VINE in this state. It is free, confidential and run by the state. Search for the person on ivss-counties.tdcj.texas.gov and choose notices for booking, release, a custody change, or a new or moved court date. No account is required, and registrations stay hidden from the inmate. Help in English or Spanish runs 24 hours a day at 866-268-8959.

Two more ways to keep watch: the Sheriff's releases page, and a call to the jail at 806-878-4012.

6. Bail and bond after a Hutchinson County arrest

A magistrate, for instance one of the county's justices of the peace, must see the person within 48 hours. That judge explains their rights and sets bail, in one of three forms:

  • cash, paid in full and held by the court;
  • surety, where a licensed bondsman signs and charges a fee;
  • personal bond, released on a written promise without upfront money.

A few roster cards read "No Bond" or "Bond: Denied." In 2025, Texas made bail harder to get on some violent charges. Separately, an outside agency's hold may stop a release after the local bond is paid.

For the exact amount, phone 806-878-4012. Our bail and release page goes deeper on bond types, payment and refunds.

7. Learning the exact charges

Every card on the roster lists the charges, including warrants, holds and parole or probation violations. Jail staff at 806-878-4012 can confirm the newest version and give case numbers.

Once prosecutors file the case:

Each charge has a class under Penal Code chapter 12. Class C brings only a fine. Jail time is possible from Class B, at up to 180 days, and Class A, at up to a year. Above those sit the felony grades, with capital at the top.

8. Free defense lawyers for jailed defendants

At the first hearing, the magistrate offers a free lawyer to anyone who can't afford one and helps with the paperwork. Missed that chance? Phone the District Clerk at 806-878-4017 to learn how to ask now.

  • CCP art. 15.17(a) gives the magistrate 24 hours to pass the request along.
  • Here the county gets three working days, starting when the form arrives, to name counsel. That limit sits in CCP art. 1.051(c).
  • When appointed, the attorney has until the next working day ends to reach out (CCP art. 26.04(j)).

Local judges assign private attorneys by a written plan, found on the indigent defense plans list.

9. Visiting days at the Stinnett jail

Visits are split by gender on the Sheriff's jail page:

  • Male inmates: Tuesday from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., plus Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
  • Female inmates: Thursday from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., plus Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Call 806-878-4012 ahead of your trip. Find out if the visit is in person or on a screen, how many guests are allowed, which ID works, and what clothes are off limits. Children may need a parent or guardian with them.

Texas jail standards promise each inmate at least a pair of weekly visits of 20 minutes or longer, with one scheduled for an evening or weekend. General tips are on our visitation page.

10. Sending money to a Hutchinson County inmate

Account money lets an inmate buy extras such as snacks and soap. Before sending a dollar, call the jail at 806-878-4012. Ask which deposit methods it takes, what each one costs, and which identifying details go with the payment.

Mailing cash is a bad idea. For general help, see the money deposit page, plus our commissary page on jail stores.

11. Phones, texts and email from the jail

Under 37 TAC 259.119, a Texas jail keeps a phone in booking for newly arrested people. For how calls work after that, and to learn about texting, email or tablets, call the jail at 806-878-4012.

For typical setups, read about calls on our inmate phone page and messages on our jail email page.

12. Writing letters to someone in the county jail

Address letters to:

Hutchinson County Jail
P.O. Box 516, Stinnett, TX 79083

Write the inmate's full legal name above the address. Then check with the jail at 806-878-4012 on two points: whether a booking number must appear, and what extras like photos or paperbacks are allowed.

Under Texas standards, letters going out or coming in have no ceiling. Letters from an attorney get opened with the inmate watching, and staff only check them for contraband. Our inmate mail page has more.

13. Collecting belongings from the jail

Property collected during booking is held by the jail. To pick it up yourself, or to send someone in your place, call 806-878-4012 and ask:

  • what days and hours property can be collected;
  • which ID the person collecting it needs;
  • whether the inmate needs to sign off first;
  • how any account balance is refunded at release.

14. Illness, injuries and medication in jail

Phone the jail at 806-878-4012 as soon as you can. Share the name and the health concern, for example daily medicine, pregnancy, diabetes or a mental health condition. Staff can tell you how outside prescriptions are handled.

Signs of mental illness trigger a legal duty: within 12 hours, staff must notify a magistrate, as CCP art. 16.22 requires.

Every Texas jail must give inmates its procedure for raising a grievance. When a problem stays unresolved, use the Texas Commission on Jail Standards complaints and inquiries page, or call 512-463-5505.

15. Warrant checks in Hutchinson County

Deputies, constables and city officers can all serve a warrant. For a warrant check, reach the Sheriff's Office at 1400 Veta Street, Borger, TX 79007, 806-274-6343. Constables answer too: Precinct 1 at 806-878-4030, Precinct 2 at 806-273-0113. For someone already booked, warrant charges print on the jail roster. For the state's wanted fugitives, with photos, check the Texas 10 Most Wanted posted by DPS.

Clearing a warrant starts with the court that signed it. Call that court, or turn yourself in alongside a lawyer. Felony warrants go through the District Clerk, 515 S. Main St., Stinnett, TX 79083, 806-878-4017.

16. Upcoming court dates

The District Clerk, 806-878-4017, gives felony dates. The County Clerk, 806-878-4002, gives misdemeanor dates. Have the full name ready, and the cause number if you know it.

Online, try the county's records portal. Texas IVSS-Counties can also send a notice whenever a hearing is scheduled or rescheduled. Our criminal court page explains each courtroom and the steps of a case.

17. Federal prisoners from the Panhandle

Federal cases from the county go to Amarillo's U.S. District Court, 205 SE 5th Avenue, Room 133, Amarillo, TX 79101, 806-468-3800. A U.S. magistrate judge then rules on pretrial custody, holding a detention hearing if the government asks (18 U.S.C. 3142).

Pretrial, federal defendants are U.S. Marshals prisoners, who may be placed in a county jail. The Amarillo office, 205 SE 5th Street, Unit 214, Amarillo, TX 79101, 806-324-2350, can tell you where. Low on funds? Ask about the Federal Public Defender, 600 S. Tyler Street, Suite 2300, Amarillo, TX 79101, 806-324-2370.

After a federal sentence, the BOP locator takes a register number or a full name. Pretrial detainees often won't appear there yet.

18. Immigration holds and ICE custody

An ICE hold is marked on the roster card. The process from there:

  1. ICE's request to hold someone comes on a form numbered I-247A.
  2. Staff may keep the person up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released, which gives agents time to come (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
  3. Agents collect the person, who may end up at an immigration center anywhere ICE has beds.
  4. Look the person up on the ICE Online Detainee Locator. An A-number works best. Without one, combine the name with the birth date and the country where they were born.

State law, CCP art. 2A.060, requires compliance with ICE detainers unless lawful status is proven. A 2025 law adds a December 1, 2026 deadline for every county with a jail to pursue a 287(g) arrangement. When a locator search finds nothing, try ICE's Dallas Field Office, 8101 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247, which takes calls at 972-367-2200.

19. Tracking a transfer to a Texas prison

After a prison sentence on a felony, the person leaves Stinnett for TDCJ custody. After an intake stage, the department picks a unit for them.

Use the TDCJ inmate lookup. It wants the precise last name with at least one initial, or else the TDCJ number or SID. Anyone released or not yet moved won't be there. The data refreshes on business days and trails by 24 hours or more.

Our Texas state prisons page lists each prison in the system.

20. When a teen from Hutchinson County is arrested

Texas juvenile court covers ages 10 to 16, while 17-year-olds face adult charges. Kids under 17 are housed apart from the adult lockup.

  • A parent must get word quickly from the officer (Family Code 52.02).
  • A court-appointed lawyer joins the child for a detention hearing. Family Code 54.01 sets it by the second working day.
  • Juveniles do not show up on the adult jail roster.

Juvenile Probation, 1400 Veta St, Borger, TX 79007, 806-273-0105, can locate a child. Panhandle families often deal with the Youth Center of the High Plains, 9300 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX 79118, 806-468-5700, which accepts Panhandle youths by contract.
