With 48 beds it accepts both males and females who are 10-17 and are alleged to have committed class B misdemeanors or more serious charges. With the seriousness of charges, it is maintained as a maximum security facility for the safety of the staff and the residents as well as the community. Those who are serving a sentence will do so at another facility, as this is a short term pre-adjudication location. Any who are determined to require detention until their court hearing or at their detention hearing, which occurs within 2 days of arrival, will be reassessed every 10 days. Other counties may also access the location and the services provided, with it offering space to around 20 counties that do not have their own individual juvenile detention centers.
