Panola County Detention Center Inmate Search
Panola County Inmate Search: Who Is on Wellington Street and How to Help
Deputies, Carthage officers and state troopers all bring their Panola arrests to the same place: the Panola County Detention Center, 319 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633. It is the county's lone adult lockup, and the Sheriff's Office sits right across Wellington. Below you'll find searching, mugshots, charges, visits, money, mail, warrants and a full police list.
Begin with the Panola Detention Center inmate search. Key in a surname, then tap the matching entry. Each Panola entry carries a booking photo, the charges, and the arresting agency. The roster mirrors who sleeps on Wellington Street tonight, so names vanish soon after a release or transfer.
Name missing, or the entry looks wrong? Ring the Wellington Street jail at 903-693-0359. Find out if the person was booked, freed, or shipped elsewhere. Then turn to our Panola bail steps for getting them home, and our Sycamore Street court guide for Panola case files and hearings.
1. Panola County jail roster: how does a search go?
- Pull up the Detention Center inmate search from a Panola phone, tablet or laptop.
- Type the surname. Narrow a long Panola list with a first name.
- Retry with spelling twists, a maiden name, or the hyphen dropped.
- Match the right entry by age or booking photo.
- Jot down the booking facts and every charge before you phone Wellington Street.
This roster covers people in the building today, not old stays. Older Panola bookings and court files live on a Tyler portal, the Judicial Records Search, which the Sheriff's page calls "Jail Records." When either site misbehaves, jail staff at 903-693-0359 can confirm custody by phone.
↑ Back to the question list2. Panola roster shows no match: what could be going on?
Panola families most often run into one of these:
- Still in booking. Prints, the booking photo and a health screen happen first at Wellington Street, so recheck the Panola roster later that day.
- Released already. Posting bond, or a Panola magistrate's no-cash release, can free someone within a day.
- Booked elsewhere. An arrest by a trooper or a neighbor county's deputy can lead to a different jail. Neighbors are in the next answer.
- Federal or ICE custody. Those people turn up in federal tools, covered lower on this page.
Phone the Detention Center, 319 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633, at 903-693-0359, and give the Panola inmate's legal name and date of birth. For a stop inside Carthage, the city police desk at 903-693-3866 knows where its arrests went.
↑ Back to the question list3. Which jails hold people arrested in or around Panola County?
Panola runs one adult jail. The Panola County Detention Center, 319 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0359, keeps Panola adults from booking until release, transfer or the end of a local sentence. Carthage police book their arrests there too.
Someone picked up just past the Panola line is likely sitting in that county's jail. The three Texas neighbors:
- West: Rusk County Jail, 210 West Charlevoix, Henderson, TX 75652, 903-655-3000.
- South: Shelby County Jail, 100 Hurst Street, Center, TX 75935, Sheriff's line 936-598-5601.
- North: Harrison County Jail, 110 South Franklin Street, Marshall, TX 75670, 903-923-4003.
Panola children are never held on Wellington Street. The under-18 answer says whom to call.
↑ Back to the question list4. Does the Panola jail search show mugshots?
Yes. A June 2026 county news item said the Panola roster at correctionsrecordssearch.com/panolacountytx shows a mug shot, the charges and the arresting agency for each current inmate. So mugshots of people now on Wellington Street are free to view there.
For an older Panola booking photo, the Sheriff's Office takes Public Information Act requests on paper, at 314 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0333. Under Gov't Code 552.108(c), that Act opens basic Panola arrest facts to anyone.
Commercial mugshot sites often copy Panola photos. If such a site charges $150 or more for removal, Texas makes it correct or delete a wrong or partial Panola record at no charge. Panola cases that were expunged or sealed must stay off it entirely (Bus. & Com. Code ch. 109).
Booking photos taken by ICE are requested with an ICE FOIA form. Federal booking photos are mostly kept private, though a wanted-fugitive poster from the Marshals Service may carry one.
↑ Back to the question list5. Release or transfer alerts for a Panola inmate: which service sends them?
Panola is part of Texas IVSS-Counties, a free statewide service to get custody alerts from county jails. Look up the person, choose Panola, and get word by phone call, text message or email. Its 24-hour help line, 866-268-8959, has English and Spanish speakers.
The Panola Sheriff's page also sends victims to the Attorney General's victim notification page. Since an alert can run late, a call to Wellington Street at 903-693-0359 clears up any doubt.
↑ Back to the question list6. Getting someone out of the Panola jail: how does bail work?
Bail in Texas can still mean money. Within two days of a Panola arrest, a magistrate goes over rights and charges and puts a bail figure on every count (Tex. CCP 15.17). Three kinds of release follow:
- Personal bond: a signed Panola pledge to show up in court, with no cash down. Some violent Panola charges block it.
- Cash bond: Wellington Street collects the entire figure, and it returns after the case if every Panola date was kept.
- Surety bond: for the full Panola amount, a licensed bondsman signs as guarantor, charging a fee you never get back.
Before paying, phone Wellington Street at 903-693-0359 for the amount and the payment it takes. A posted bond may not free someone right away, such as when another county or ICE has a hold. For the full picture of bond kinds, costs, holds and refunds, read our Panola bail and release page.
↑ Back to the question list7. The Panola charges: where can I read them?
Each charge shows on the booking entry in the Detention Center search. That is only the arrest charge. A Panola prosecutor may later change it, drop it, or add more.
After filing, case summaries appear on the Panola Judicial Records Search. Felony files are with the District Clerk, 110 S. Sycamore St., Room 227, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0306. Misdemeanors above Class C are with the County Clerk, 110 S. Sycamore St., Room 201, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0302. The state's re:SearchTX lists filed Panola charges and judgments for anyone holding a free login.
↑ Back to the question list8. Can a Panola inmate get a free lawyer, and how?
The first-hearing magistrate asks every Panola arrestee about a court-appointed lawyer. If money is tight, say yes and fill out the sworn money form truthfully. A judge rules on it. Panola's appointed lawyer then gets a single working day to attempt that first contact (Tex. CCP 1.051, 26.04).
If the person said no at first, they can still put a written request to jail staff, or family can phone the clerk who has the case. Read the Panola appointment rules through the state's TIDC plan finder. A paid lawyer is always an option, and can call Wellington Street to arrange a visit.
↑ Back to the question list9. Visiting the Panola County jail: how is it set up?
Before you drive to 319 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633, phone the Detention Center at 903-693-0359. Ask about Panola visit days, how to sign up, which ID to bring, and the dress rules. Staffing or a lockdown can change the plan.
Texas sets a floor for every jail, Panola's included: two weekly visits of 20 minutes or more, one of which must fall on an evening, a Saturday or a Sunday. Some Texas jails swap face-to-face visits for video screens in a lobby or at home (Gov't Code 511.009). Church and clergy volunteers apply with the Panola volunteer packet. Our visitation page covers jail visits in general.
↑ Back to the question list10. Funding a Panola County inmate's account: what are the options?
Funds on a Panola account buy snacks, soap, phone time and other extras. Ask Wellington Street at 903-693-0359 which ways it accepts: a lobby kiosk, phone, online, or a money order. Ask what fees Panola's vendor charges and how much one deposit can be, then save each receipt.
Our inmate deposits page walks Panola families through sending funds, and our commissary page shows what jail stores usually sell. Whatever is left at release should go back to the person, often as a card or check, so ask Panola staff how they pay it out.
↑ Back to the question list11. Calls, texts and messages with someone on Wellington Street: how?
Inmates on Wellington Street generally phone out rather than taking calls, either collect or using prepaid time that relatives buy from the jail's phone company. Jail calls are usually recorded, apart from protected lawyer calls, so leave case talk off the line.
Ask Wellington Street at 903-693-0359 who the phone vendor is and whether Panola inmates can use tablets or send messages. Two of our pages, on jail phone accounts and on inmate messaging, describe how these accounts tend to work.
↑ Back to the question list12. Letters to a Panola inmate: what address and rules?
Address each Panola letter like this, with the legal name on top:
[Full name]
Panola County Detention Center
319 W. Wellington
Carthage, TX 75633
Phone 903-693-0359 to learn if Panola wants a booking number on the envelope, and which items get turned away. Put your return address on it. Under the state jail standards board's mail rules, Texas jails can't cap how many letters someone receives. Letters from a lawyer get opened at Wellington Street only while the inmate looks on. Common mailing errors are on our jail mail page.
↑ Back to the question list13. Belongings taken at a Panola booking: how do I get them?
During booking at Wellington Street, staff inventory the person's clothes, wallet, phone and other things. All of it is stored until release, when the person signs it back out. If you're helping, ask for a copy of that inventory.
Panola inmates can often sign a property release so a relative takes things like house or car keys home sooner. Call 903-693-0359 for Panola pickup hours and the ID required. Evidence stays locked up with whichever agency seized it until the Panola case closes. Ask that agency, or the defense lawyer, about getting it back.
↑ Back to the question list14. Illness, injury or medicine needs in the Panola jail: who do I call?
Phone the Detention Center at 903-693-0359 and ask for the shift supervisor on duty. Describe the condition, list the medicines, and name the prescribing doctor. Panola staff can say little about health by phone, but they can take your information. The person should also file a written medical request from inside.
Texas law requires jails to provide care. If a serious need is ignored, complain to the state jail standards board, TCJS, on its complaints page or at 512-463-5505. For an emergency, dial 911.
↑ Back to the question list15. Panola County warrant check: where and how?
County warrants are served by Panola deputies, city ones by Carthage officers. Phone the Sheriff's Office, 314 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633, at 903-693-0333, or city police at 903-693-3866. A name search on the Tyler court portal may reveal an open Panola case. Statewide, a DPS page names the Texas 10 Most Wanted; a full public warrant list for Panola does not exist.
A lawyer is the safest route to clear one. The lawyer can arrange a planned turn-in at the Wellington Street jail, or seek a new court date. For a Panola felony warrant, contact the District Clerk, 110 S. Sycamore St., Room 227, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0306.
↑ Back to the question list16. The next Panola court date: where is it listed?
Search the name on the Judicial Records Search. When no date appears, phone the Sycamore Street clerk. Felony dates: District Clerk, 903-693-0306. Class A and B dates: County Clerk, 903-693-0302. Fine-only dates: one of the two justice courts. All of them work from the courthouse at 110 S. Sycamore St., Carthage, TX 75633.
Note the courtroom, the room number and the start time. Skipping a Panola court date can forfeit the bond and trigger a fresh warrant. Each Sycamore Street courtroom, and how a Panola case moves, is in our Panola criminal court guide.
↑ Back to the question list17. A federal arrest from Panola: how do I locate the person?
Panola's federal cases are heard in Tyler, part of the Eastern District of Texas, where the federal clerk works from 211 West Ferguson Street, Room 106, Tyler, TX 75702, 903-590-1000. A detention hearing in Tyler decides if the Panola defendant can wait for trial at home.
Before sentencing, federal prisoners from Panola are in Marshals Service custody, often in a county jail that bills the Marshals for beds. The Tyler Marshals office, 211 West Ferguson Street, 4th Floor, Tyler, TX 75702, 903-590-1370, can say where. After sentencing, the Bureau of Prisons takes charge, and its online BOP locator finds people by name or by register number for Panola families.
↑ Back to the question list18. ICE custody after a Panola arrest: how do I find the person?
- To ask Panola jailers to keep someone, ICE sends a detainer called Form I-247A.
- Under it, the Panola jail can keep them up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released, so ICE has time to collect them (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
- Texas law makes the Panola jail comply with a detainer. Panola jailers lift it early if shown proof of citizenship or lawful immigration status (Tex. CCP 2A.060).
- Separately, Panola may not adopt its own limits on immigration enforcement, a rule found in Gov't Code 752.053 since 2017.
- Texas lawmakers added S.B. 8 in 2025. Sheriffs who operate jails, Panola's among them, must seek ICE 287(g) deals before December 1, 2026. Wellington Street's Sheriff's Office can tell you where things stand: 903-693-0333.
- Once ICE has custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Search with the alien number, or with name and country of birth together.
East Texas ICE field offices include Houston, 126 Northpoint Drive, Houston, TX 77060, 281-774-4816, and Dallas, 8101 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247, 972-367-2200.
↑ Back to the question list19. Sent from Panola to a TDCJ unit: how is the person tracked?
Once the 123rd sentences someone to state time, they stay on Wellington Street until a TDCJ transfer. Next comes a TDCJ intake unit for health checks and sorting, and after that a long-term unit. Expect it to take weeks.
The state's TDCJ inmate search searches by TDCJ number, SID, or a last name with at least the first initial. Panola people appear only after arriving at a TDCJ unit, and the data is refreshed on business days and runs at least 24 hours old. Our Texas prisons page describes the units and how to contact them.
↑ Back to the question list20. A Panola child under 17 was picked up: what happens?
Texas sends kids aged 10 to 16 through juvenile court, and police must notify a parent fast (Fam. Code 51.02, 52.02). Seventeen-year-olds go to the Wellington Street adult jail like any other Panola arrest.
No youth detention center operates in Panola. Phone Panola County Juvenile Probation, 110 S. Sycamore St., Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0352, to ask where the Panola youth is being held and the hearing date. By law the Panola detention hearing must happen inside two working days, with counsel for the youth named ahead of time (Fam. Code 54.01). The Panola youth diversion plan describes ways a youth case can stay out of court.
↑ Back to the question list21. Every police agency in Panola County: who made the arrest?
The booking entry in the jail search names the arresting agency. These are the agencies that work Panola:
- Sheriff's Office: 314 W. Wellington, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0333. Deputies cover the countryside and each town lacking its own police force.
- Carthage Police Department: reach it through City Hall, 812 W. Panola Street, Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-3866.
- Texas DPS Highway Patrol, Carthage office: 903-693-0355; that line can give the office's street address. Troopers patrol highways and state roads across Panola.
- Precinct constables: they serve court papers and some warrants. Reach them through the courthouse, 110 S. Sycamore St., Carthage, TX 75633, 903-693-0300.
- Beckville, Gary City and the Panola side of Tatum: Wellington Street deputies are the first call to learn who patrols there.
No matter which agency arrests an adult, the person lands on Wellington Street. In an emergency, dial 911.
