About the Windham County Jail & Sheriff
The Windham County Sheriff’s Office has recently moved to a new location and can now be found on Old Ferry Road in Brattleboro, Vermont. With a new mailing address and location, they are providing the same services as always. The new facility is ready to do fingerprinting and background checks for both volunteer opportunities as well as for job requirements, they monitor road safety and enforce the laws of the road, and are responsible not only for law enforcement throughout the city they are located in, working with the Brattleboro Police, but also or the surrounding county and many of the smaller towns and cities that lie with in it. They respond to emergency calls, serve warrants, and perform process serving for civil matters. In addition, the office is responsible for the transportation of any inmates or offenders between the jail and the courthouses, as well as transfers from one jail to another, communications and dispatch for emergency services as well as for the Sheriff’s Department and patrol the community to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors. Complaints and concerns can be mailed to the facility, provided in person at the office, through email, or online. A newly added program has added a social worker to the team, and they work in conjunction with the sheriff and deputies to offer supports in the community to those who require additional supports, to help reduce the risk in situations where an offender or other citizen is in need of immediate mental health care and makes arrests and transports safer in many situation. This program can assist in deescalating situations and ensuring better success rates and safer arrests for those who are in mental distress and continue to support them while they are transported to a facility for the ongoing support that they require.
