About the Newport News City Jail Annex

The Newport News Jail Annex, located at 228 25th Street in Newport News, VA 23607 is the smaller of two facilities that are operated under the same umbrella, and by the Newport News Sheriff. You can reach the Annex by calling 757-926-8535, and inmates can be looked up online for both of the Newport News facilities.

As the minimum security facility, this single story brick location, that sits across the street from the rear of the Main Jail houses many non-violent offenders and those who are serving short sentences or may be able to participate in work release and other programs. With many of the same services and expectations of the main jail, this location also provides all meals from a full kitchen, laundry for bedding and clothing, commissary for additional needs, and access to phone calls and visits with those who are in their support system outside of the jail.

Each inmate is responsible for assisting with the cleaning of the common areas as well as their own cell, and some may work in the kitchen, the laundry, or as maintenance around the building. These skills are useful when searching for work outside of the facility and can help to increase confidence while also benefitting mental health of those who are serving longer sentences. Phones and video visits are available from 9 am each day until 11pm each night, and friends and family can fund those accounts through securustech.net, along with schedule visits.
